Unfortunately, my garage is wide enough for just a single vehicle. If I put this in, I would have to park under the lift all the time.

im not sure what it is called but the floor jack that i have will lift up fast until it contacts the truck and then works at a normal speed when lifting the truck very handy.

It is for me. It only weighs about half of a full steel jack, but it is just as strong.

Better to ask what I have not done.
My thing I have heard from harbor freight is how muck could it hurt you if it broke? The more likely that is, the better they make their product. So jack=good screw driver set=P.O.S.

No matter the manufacturer of jack, you must be using jack stands if you will be under the vehicle.

I have one of the Aluminum racing jacks from Harbor Freight. It is a very high quality jack. I've had it 3 years so far and it is showing no signs of leaking down. I've had 4-5 jacks of other manufacturers in the last 20 years. They all would fail after 3 years.

Guess what? The 3 ton jacks from sears are Chinese made too. So the "Chinese garbage" defense doesn't work when knocking down HF

You will have to work very hard to find an American made jack. It will be spendy too

it was $2175 delivered to the freight depot in my town. I picked it up there and hauled it home on my car hauler. It would have been an extra $250 to have it delivered to my door.

Wow... I thought they were WAY more expensive.

Did you self-install? I would imagine the anchoring for that would have to be pretty intense.

I did the install myself. As long as you have 4" or more concrete that is crack free in the area that you want to place the lift, you are good to go.

I have a bunch of pictures on another site that I frequent. I posted them in my photo gallery of the Garage Journal. I have the same avatar name. Click on it and go from there if you feel like it.

The lift is Chinese, but it matters not to me. Our economy is tied to China, so I don't feel bad buying Chinese. That's another argument, tho.

You can tell the assembly instructions were translated from Chinese to English. Some things are not real clear. Fortunately putting these things together is pretty straight forward and I like a puzzle

I want a lift. So jealous. Good rationale on money for said lift.
Have a 2 ton Harbor freight floor jack that goes to 24" lift. That's what sold me on it. Entire truck with tools weighs 4,900 lbs. So no problem lifting half at a time.

I'm kind of jealous of you.

I was down your way last spring. I was amazed at the number of lifts that were outside. Being able to work outside on a vehicle any time of year is awesome! In addition, natural lighting is so much better when working on our trucks.

Kirk, what is the total height of your lift (upper cross header)?

I asked you earlier, I'm interested in one, but not for more than $2,500

I can't remember exactly"? I could go to the website where I got the lift or so can you.

I got my specific lift because it was one of the wider lifts that was offered. I needed to lift 8' 6" wide trailers on occasion and it was the only lift that could do that.

.gregsmithequipment.com. is the company. They have all the specs for all the lift they offer. It also goes into great detail on frequently asked questions. I had no issue with dealing with the company. I ordered and paid for it on a Thursday afternoon and it was delivered to the FedEx dock the following Monday.

The kits weigh about 1800-2000 lbs. The easiest way to get the thing delivered to your garage would be to hire a flat bed wrecker. They would be able to drop it exactly were you want it.

They have a very in depth web site. they have many different styles of lifts. No matter the garage configuration, I'm betting they have a lift that would work for you.

Any other questions, feel free to ask. I'm gonna be stuck in front of a computer all night.

    Later

There was a Sears aluminum jack that I liked a few years back. Prior to getting it, a few of my friends beat me to the punch. Two jacks failed after a year, a third replacement jack failed a year afterwards. The jack itself still held the weight, but the release mechanism completely failed.

I really need to take the time and get a proper jack myself.
