My friend had an old BMW that's been sitting for about a year that he wanted towed, the way it was parked we needed to push it backwards in order to tow it. We started pushing on it. In neutral, reverse with clutch in/clutch out, 1st gear with clutch in/clutch out. It wouldn't budge. We got the car started after letting the battery charge and putting some gas in it he put it in reverse and tried to go but nothing happened. So with the wheels being locked up we decided to drag it out. No tow hook points in the rear of the car underneath of it so we found some crossbar in the trunk and wrapped the tow rope around that then the other end to my truck.

I started out slow to get the slack out of the rope then as it got tight I gave it more gas and so on. Got the car out of the parking spot and it somehow unlocked the wheels as I drug it and he was able to drive off to the junkyard with me following him.

With that being my first time having to pull something it got me wondering what is the limit for these trucks? If you could describe the situation you were in and what you were towing, also possibly share what engine you have/transmission and any upgrades to it.

The limits are clearly listed in the owner's manual. You should read it before doing any serious towing. Do ask questions about parts you don't understand. I have moved 5000 pound vans with frozen brakes (likely BMW problem) several times with my truck. Not a problem, especially with an elastic (dynamic) strap.

It was one of those spur of the moment things "Hey buddy you have a truck can you tow my car to the junkyard after work?". We didn't realize the wheels were locked up on it until we tried pushing on it. I'll read up on it in the manual though.

A dc 4x4 has the ability to haul trailers somewhere in the 3000 lb range. It's when you get into payload that tacomas are lackluster. Somewhere in the 1200lb range, and that includes passenger weight!

I have towed past the tow limit on these trucks. You just need to get comfortable with towing and learn to read/feel your engine. Learning what gear to shift into when your truck asks for it helps also not to stress it too much. I always start in first when coming from a complete stop and shift upwards when the truck needs me to.
