    hi TW,

I'm curious how much is the re-sale value of our 2016 Tacoma? I know a majority of people here bought the trucks in 17. I paid $34,400 OTD for my 4x2 TRD Sport in So Cal on May, 2016
I got a letter in the mail from my dealership for a trade value of $26,374. I know this time of the year dealerships do this to generate more sales.

Too many elements to answer this such as condition, mileage, accidents, region, color popularity in your region, and so on. Use Trucar, edmunds, kbb, and look at certified used for sale online at dealers to get an idea...

Dont go just by KBB- many dealers use http://www.nadaguides.com
for pricing. Also bring it to CarMax- they do a pretty good job inspecting it and give you a detailed report including a fair dealer market value offer with a cashiers check on the spot. No hassles either.

But if you want thousands more for it, you have to be willing to sell it yourself.

+1 on CarMax. Sold my 2014 there and got a much better price for it than a stealership. Good luck!

I always check a couple sites(kbb & nadaguides) and then head to Carmax.

KBB and Nada might be good starting points, but I always check Craigslist or other local classifieds to see what they're going for. There are a lot of variables, but I would just aim high and see what happens.

FYI, dealership letters are meaningless. They might offer you $XXX, which may seem like a good deal, but then they just jack up the price of the new vehicle you're getting.

That is why it is good to keep the two transactions separate. Price of new vehicle and how much for trade. That said, I have traded my vehicles in most of the time. I do enough research to know that I am willing to pay with a trade in. If the dealership cannot meet that dollar number, then we have no deal. I pretty much have paid cash for vehicles for years.

Like I told one sales person years ago. You can give me 1cent for my vehicle if you want, but your are coming way the heck down on your vehicles price.

As far as what a vehicle is worth. It is good to use KBB, NADA, Edmunds, TrueCar, local private sell adds, Carmax, etc. They are a good guide on what your vehicle is worth.

Just go to autotrader and look for your exact truck for sale by others...

well hopefully you dont have to sell but best way is to pull down Nada and KBB numbers in your zip then also go in to Carmax and get buy bid and that is good for 7 days. Carmax usually will pay more than dealers if you do not want to deal with selling yourself. I can say if i was selling id probably use Carmax and not try to deal with it even for less $$ because many things from paying off and them getting financing can be a pain.

If you want to have fun email the dealership that sent the letter and ask for their best price. Don't mention the letter. Then when you go in, slap down the letter and demand they honor their price. Yeah the small print explaining the price and all but that means nothing to you. Demand it anyways. They will play ball or they won't. I enjoy beating up dealerships, they can never wear me down and I actually enjoy making them blink first.
