My 03 has 161k on it. Last time I took it in for service my guy said something along the line of "keep this up you'll get 500k outta this one"

I just acquired a 2003 Prerunner quadcab with 170k ish on the odo... they drove it until the cams siezed and broke the front off of the D/S cam. It isnt mileage, its maintenance. I drained maybe 2 cups of oil out of the oil pan on inspection.

i recently bought a 1997 2.7L for $5100 that said 143000 on the odometer but the carfax said 288000 in 2012 which was the last year it had any records for. carfax estimated 340000+ miles for 2017. the truck pulls strong and doesn't burn oil. the body and frame are in great shape, the cab is clean, seats have one small rip on the driver's side, carpets are clean too. i'm replacing the ball joints, shocks/struts, tires and the manifold but i wouldn't have to do any of those right away if i didn't want to.

Despite the age of the OP's post, I'll chime in to keep up morale.

My Taco, all original, is just shy of 550,000 mi.

I put a junkyard motor in mine when the headgasket finally blew at 305k.. and that could have probably been prevented. Most reliable vehicle I have ever had hands down.

There is no real correct or wrong answer .

These are all owned by different people and the people on the forums for the most tend to take care of there babies .

Any vehicle can be neglected to the point it is to far gone even for a project at 50,000 miles

Each one has to be judged on it`s on merits .

Fully agree. I know 2 women who drive their Acura (02/04) and one has 280K and the other 365K and they do barely anything to them except basic service and they are still going, plus they are both autos and those were some of the worst Acura made....only time will tell

If you put all the miles on then you know. It's all about upkeep and maintenance. How it was driven. Etc. With a ton of Miles it's a gamble when you buy.

Just sold my old '98 T-100 to my nephew. It had 267,000 miles on it and I just replaced the timing belt and water pump for the third time since I've owned it. It was the 3.4 liter engine. It ran great and never had to add any oil between 5,000 mile changes. I changed the valve cover gaskets at 221,000 miles and the cams didn't have any scoring and the top end was spotless. Regular oil changes and routine maintenance should get you easily 300k if it was serviced regularly before you got it. See how it does for the first 5,000 miles. If it doesn't use any oil or leak bad, and it doesn't smoke and runs smoothly, you may be just fine.

Had a new 1999 that sold then it was sold again and the last time I stood beside it it had 397,400 miles on it. Still started with original starter, the factory cb still worked fine. In fact they had only changed the body parts and put on a new exhaust. These trucks go forever...

It'd be nice if the op chimed in with how many miles the truck he purchased has now.
