Fees are not $500 per vehicle. Fees are based on value of the vehicle. Some more than $500 and some less than $500. My older cars are in the $100 range. So, your math might be a little high. But your point stands, it is a lot of money for sure!

Taxes are weird for sure. My 2nd home property tax was $212 for 2019. So, there are ups and downs overall.

I haven't had one since like 2010 when premium was $500 and that included parking. I miss those days

Also I think my registration was somewhere in the 400's last summer when I bought my truck if I'm remembering the paper work correctly. Glad my company covers everything vehicle related lol

I searched around and found an article stating that California collected 8.2 billion in auto registration. So your math is pretty good!

Wow, that is a long list! Looks good, although mortgage insurance is an insurance not a fee or tax. And don't forget general sales tax. Although social security might be called a tax, we (if we live long enough) get money back, so it is a bit different. I don't even know what health tax is?! lol

The biggy of course is the federal income tax. I pay about $70,000 to the feds in tax each year. That's 2 TACOMAS FOR PETES SAKE! :D

    70k! feel ya on the 2 tacos its worth...id do a taco & a 4runner :)
health tax is the affordable care act (ACA) or obamacare as the media cutely calls it
businesses pay for it (which is the employee paying for it less their actual take home pay)
same deal with social security tax....it is taken out of ones pay by an employer before the employee get their $

good point on general sales tax! adding my list now!
    thats 10% in kali
so if it says $100 on the shelf you actually have to pay $110 to leave the store with it
the state wants its use tax paid...the states logic is that is you can afford to pay the $100,
$10 more shouldn't be a big deal to use said product within state boundaries

both state & the federal govt have gone banana's on taxing us to death
you get taxed when you earn money
you get taxed when you spend it
you get taxed when you die
    WTF!

I grew up in Dana Point. I miss the weather and food the most. Sometimes I miss going out to the desert to 4 wheel or shoot our guns. But now I don't think it would be as much fun. I'd be worried about them being confiscated.

So why the hell did you go on this thread and reply. Move on shmuck. We get on here to share info, Financial and other wise. I’m sure if I searched all your thread and replies I would find a topic of money come out of your mouth. This thread is about registration fees and how great they vary. Why some states including mine charge me more because I have a nicer truck than the guy next to me doesn’t mean I should pay more.

In California, do you also pay a separate yearly property tax, or is it included in the registration fee?

    THAT IS AN EXCELLENT QUESTION!

I imagine it’s a revolving monthly bill since they are all on different months. Probably $4000 a month
