ran my '78 Celica bone dry in '92 on I-80 in the middle of nowhere Iowa
thankfully some nice young college girl stopped to give me a ride to and from the nearest gas station nearly 5 miles away
i probably still need to repay that if I see someone walking the interstate alone with an abandoned vehicle in the middle of nowhere

I get about 260, + or - 10 miles, before the gas light turns on. Haven't ran her dry, but will refill after a couple miles without the light on. Much pleased with my current mpg's; even with the bigger 29 in tires.

Only thing I need to do is pull my air filter and spray it down, get's ella dirty frequently with Az dust and deck plate mod lol

I've been watching the new Ted Bundy documentary on Amazon Prime and this sounds eerily like one of his abduction/murder cases

i can honestly say i have never tried my truck out on an 'all-city tank', partial city at best, it gets bad MPGs 4wheeling in the snow for sure
but have always felt the best preventative maintenance is to run it out on the freeway after making city errands or whatever, it takes extra time to make a loop over the river and back but so far seems to be doing 0k, truck runs swell for its age with very minimal non-routine maintenance

I never measure mileage in my truck.
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity though. I was in Sparks Reno and drove to the Bay Area. Google maps said 252 miles total. I took an unexpected detour of around 4 miles so approx 256 mile trip adjusted.
It was all highway except for the 4 mile detour and getting off the highway to my house, then getting gas the next day. It's a close approximation. So 256 miles divided by 15.7, what I filled up at home.
Got around 16.3. I was going pretty good in the 70mph range, through mountain range then a lot of flat. I'm pretty happy with that mileage.

I do notice that once I get to a destination and putt around, the MPG's are terrible.
Usually I get somewhere and fish a couple days which means driving up and down the river dropping in at different spots, and my mileage really suffers.

The low fuel light comes on when you've burned through 15 - 15.5 gallons. You'll have roughly 3 gallons on the tank left when you see the light.

Assuming you've got an 18 gallon tank

Do you have a build/write up of how you added an extra tank? Thanks!
