All good replies. Let me add that certain jobs /positions are not focused on the money, but the benefits and upward mobility. Yes, a strong argument could be made that it is always about the money, and for some, it is. But your original question, how much more do managers make, as others have answered, it depends. And that makes sense, right? If I have to get a 4 year degree to be considered for leadership/management positions, I will *probably* get paid more than someone who only needs an associates, and he/she will *probably* get paid more than someone who only needs on the job training to make management, etc. In some cases, such as my current job (It consultant), I have way more potential for income than my boss. He has opted instead for better family life with less travel. So, I'd say a smart place to start is by asking yourself what you want in life, work backwards and envision the target. Then set reasonable, attainable goals to get there, and get moving. In this way, you will already be thinking like a leader (setting the vision), manager (goals focused), and all-important general worker (boots on ground).

Second piece of advice--absolutely nothing beats the "people connection". Definitely talk to your current manager and ask her to put in a good word. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, off the cuff I'd say she probably wouldn't recommend you anyway, and then you have to ask yourself why, and go back to envisioning the kind of worker you would like to be, set those goals and get going again. Good luck.

Agree, I travel ~90% of the time! Doing it for over 3 years now and it was only fun in the beginning...I wasted so much time on airports it's not even funny. But I do it for a reason (vision) set by me and my wife. I have about 6 more month left of travel so I see the end of the tunnel now. Also agree on money isn't everything, after a certain point when all needs are met to get to said "vision", every additional dollar doesn't do anything anymore. 1

I've been working in healthcare business for 8 years. The difference in pay really depends on the department, # of beds in the hospital, hospital organization (non-profit vs for-profit) and overall revenue within the department. Non-clinical departments (Reg/HIM/MedRec/etc) will be less of a pay increase. Like others have said, if you break it down to $/hr it may not be much of a percentage increase as there are more meetings/responsibilities.

Yup..to your question let's see, do you want a doghouse? Shack? Ranch? Where? How much land?

We both know what I mean there..

In mine, I bet my manager makes less per hr than I do because she has to stay late, take work home, work weekends, blah blah woof woof. I work my 8 hrs a day Mon-Fri and wash my hands of it.

I turned the job down not too long ago...at this point I make enough money and am in a really good spot. It's funny...I am hardly ever on here...and the state director walks by...

I work for a private physical education company and I just recently promoted to an area manager position. I've always been hourly but I'm happy to be hourly, especially as an area manager. Now I have the opportunity to work my normal hours plus expand as much as I'd like. I haven't read through the posts but a "managers" salary will depend greatly on the type of work. From my fathers experience, he's always said "enjoy what you do" which I know isn't always the case but it may apply to your situation. If a few extra bucks over your currently salary is gonna make you hate your job then stay where you are. If not then go for it.
