Oil absorbs moisture from the air over time, so if left unchanged it grows in volume.:D

My 2022 Taco has not used any in 1,500 miles and looks like new. My 2021 Challenger GT V6 has gone 7,000 miles on it first oil change still nice looking like new oil and on the full line.

While checking the dipstick…If you use Bounty paper towels it absorbs a lot more oil than a shop rag. So you will end up losing more oil that way. If you use the other brand paper towels they absorb less like the commercials on tv demonstrate. So less oil loss between oil changes.

Oil seeps past the 3-4 layers of piston rings and comes out your vent valve into your intake when your crankcase is pressurized.
Some cars/engines can be much worse than others. Turbocharged/high compression engines start with a wider ring gap to allow for expansion, so they will "consume" more oil.

To not waste any I check it after it sits a long time and don't wipe it off! Just put it and the oil on the dip stick back in! Best to check your oil sitting in the same place all the time just to be sure the angle of the vehicle is not changed.

I just mix my oil and gas together. It's way easier that way.

Thank the epa....If you want to know where most of the oil is going, install a catch can and empty it every oil change. I put one on every vehicle I own from my Hemi V8 to my Taco i4. A large majority of people that say it's not necessary have never installed a catch can to see what they could actually collect. Even our little 4 cylinders will benefit. Catch cans are not just beneficial for forced air induction, turbos.

The quicker picker upper. Definitely safer to use your fingers then. You can wipe the excess off back on the dipstick tube.

Recycle. Reuse. Reduce. It's worth it!

I never had a vehicle that burned an excessive amount of oil, but I did have a 72 Beetle that developed a decent crack in the crank case. It would drop a quart easy every couple of days. I ended up sealing that crack with some good old JB Cold Weld and drove that engine hard for a few more years.

    Work in progress...
Put an extra quart of oil in your truck and just put some new oil back on the dipstick every time you check it. Problem solved. Well I guess that about ends this discussion.

Are you sure you’re inserting the dipstick into the correct hole?

What's with everyone saying they use towels?

If you don't want the dipstick to burn your tongue, blow on it before tasting it. It's not rocket science.
