I look it up once and write it on the case of oil filters for each vehicle that way my feeble memory is not strained on every change. :D

5.25 qt will take you right up to the fill mark on the dip stick. When you want to read the stick leave it out for 20 minutes or so to let the oil drain down the tube.

MANUAL. It's usually in a thing called the "glove compartment" also sometimes referred to as the "glove box". That storage thingie in front of the passenger seat on the dashboard. It has a flipper latch, you put 1 or 2 fingers under it and gently lift until the compartment opens, revealing an area to put stuff like napkins, a trailer plug adapter, insurance cards, registration, OWNERS MANUAL, warranty information pamphlet, etc.

STEP 1: unlock truck and enter
STEP 2: open glove compartment as described above
    STEP 3: remove OWNERS MANUAL
    STEP 4: READ OWNERS MANUAL
STEP 5: slap palm to forehead while saying "duh"

    Sorry, couldn't restrain myself.

I buy a couple 5 quart jugs of Mobil-1 and a single quart. It does two changes with less math involved. :D

It's a highly advanced technical procedure. Kinda like, I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Then I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Then I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Then I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Then I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Then I turn ATRAC on then I turn ATRAC off. Etc.

    5.2 QTS reccommended, I do 5.5.

I put in an even 5 quarts. Since I don't have need of keeping it on the "full" line, the slightly lower level is good for cutting windage especially given how fast the 6 speed lets it spin. With a mobil 1 filter that's less than 1/4" below full line; haven't verified what it does with a YZZD3 on there yet. That's for next time.

I'd forgotten I had done that trick.

Going a half pint low on the Fit was good for minimum 2 mpg on average (didn't have much of a windage tray), and this truck doesn't burn any to speak of, so I figured why not.

    Iroh,

Do you think Toyota engineers said they'll up the oil capacity to reduce MPG? I find it VERY hard to believe that you're getting 42 more miles out of your tank by reducing the amount of oil you out in. The excess oil is in the oil pan, not all 5.2 recommended qts are used at once. Show me some proof.

Ugh. Read my post again. I said the FIT got 2 more mpg. It was at 91 cubic inch engine and was getting like 40 mpg to start with.

    *grumpy backhand

Windage is when the air pushed around by the crankshaft starts whipping around the oil that IS in the pan. The farther away from the crankshaft the oil is, the less it gets pushed around, the less the air in the crankcase feels resistance, and the less parasitic loss you get on the crank. Simple physics that every car has to deal with. That's why you have windage trays on high performance engines, besides then excessive whipping causes oil frothing and later dead bearings.

I stated why I did it, why it won't hurt it (you're allowed a quart down before you're even out of the range), and to boot I'm not buying another dinky quart bottle just to top off that 3/16" on the stick. End rant, going to bed.

5.5 or whatever it takes to put it at full on the stick. With these deep skirt blocks they arent as picky as the old style blocks,
