So my 2009 v6 prerunner says it takes 4.8 quarts of oil but it always looks low on the dipstick after I pour in a full 5 quart bottle. So this last oil change I added in 5.5 quarts of oil and it's over on the dipstick but it runs better with the extra oil.. How much oil do yall add in? Tia

Just a word of caution.....You are aware you can easily blow the seals by overfilling right?

According to Mitchell service info should be 5.5 quarts with changing the filter 5.2 quarts without changing the filter. My 14 4wd takes 5.5 quarts, as far as I know all Tacoma 4.0 v6's do.

4.8 quarts for 2WD and 5.5 quarts for 4WD for 4.0 engines. I would drain until its correct on the dipstick. IMHO.

You almost never get all of the old oil out. If you let it sit and drain for an hour or so you'll get more. But for most people who only let it drain for a few minutes there will be some left in the engine. I always add 5 quarts and check it again after a short drive and add a little more if it needs it. The oil doesn't have to come all the way to the top of the mark on the dipstick. As long as it is somewhere in the middle it is fine.

4.8 quarts is for the 5 lug v6 (xrunner). All 6 lug trucks take 5.5 quarts. Personally I just put a 5 qt jug in and call it good.

On my 07 pre runner 4.0 I do 5.5qt and it gets right to the top dot on the dipstick. I wish they made it easier with just 5qt so I don't have to spend an extra $8-10 on 1qt when its $24 for 5qt. But, at least I can use the other half on the next change haha

Having a .5 quart leftover is not a total waste of time or energy. You'll learn you can use it for other purposes around the house. I keep my half quart leftover in the bedroom.

Nah its not haha, its not a big deal and helps just in case it does lower. But *knock on wood*, the level always stays right near the top dot. 190k on her.

Anywhere between the dots on the dipstick is fine. There's reason it's called the "safe zone"

Also curious how you can tell it "runs better" with 5.5 versus 4.8

I didn't day by .7 quarts. I simply said by over filling. And I have seen it happen on older chevy's for sure if the seals are already older and weak. But each to their own. :anonymous: he has a 2009 with undisclosed mileage.

Put 2 quarts over in truck and check back with me in 5000 miles. I never said how much I simply said over filling! Y'all some peeps! It depends on how much over the age of the truck the condition of the seals maintenance done etc! Geese I was just trying to save the guy some issues because he said he kept puttin in oil. Y'all act like the facebook trolls!

I just dump in the 5 quart jug and call it good....except when I accidentally drain my tranny. Then I roll with ten quarts.
JUST KIDDING, don't put in ten quarts!
