This is the real reason your shouldn't excessively overfill. Oil froth doesn't lubricate well.

You shouldn't be blowing seals unless something else is wrong or you've added an insane amount of oil.

I add a 5qt jug, check the dipstick, and then continue filling until it's between the dots on the dipstick. Then I drive around the block, park, wait 15 mins, check again, and fill as necessary to keep the level between the dots. Easy peasy and fool proof.

Confirmed today, my xrunner took about 5.4qt. I dumped in 5, started, ran the engine about 40 seconds. Then waited about 5 minutes, or about the amount of time it took to spray torch a can of brake cleaner at the brown widows in my yard. That put me just above center between the 2 dots. Added a little under .5qt, now barely below the top dot. I'm guessing if I let it sit overnight, then check it in the morning I'll be right on the top dot.

the shelf life is essentially infinite if it’s brand new. There is nothing to break it down once it’s sealed in a bottle with no contaminants. I’m sure others will say it expires though, that’s like saying gum or Twinkies expire. I have learned that milk does expire the hard way several times.

Interesting -- the manual for my '05 V6 4x4 says 5.5 quarts, but 5 quarts brings it right to the full mark on the dipstick.

I was tired of having a 1/2 quart leftover so I went this route. I did some estimated calculations, then added 1.25" to the bottom of my oil pan, added a fitting for a fumoto, and it now holds 6 quarts even with a filter change.
In hind-sight, the next time I'll use two oil pans, add half a quart of liquid to it, mark it, add about an inch, cut it, then slide it over the other oil pan with the drain plug removed until liquid comes through the drain plug, and weld it. That way you only have one weld to make around the oil pan.

LOL, that is a lot of work over a half quart of oil. It does look like it turned out well for you. Good job.

Another plus for the 4 banger. It takes 6 quarts from the factory.

It wasn't too much work. I think if I ever do it again I'd use either a Tig Welder or braze it. With a wire feed welder, you expose yourself to a greater chance of leaking around the weld.

Wheels/ tires, tint, level kit. Rock crawler rails. 3- 6" procomp lights with light bar on front bumper. Magnaflow # 12256 stainless muffler. Billet shorty antenna.
    5 1/2 quarts. That’s it.

Just add 5 qts and after running for a minute or two top off to full line on dip stick. 5.25 qts gets me close enough.
And since it's pink don't add the drained tranny fluid into the radiator... https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/halp.33318/

If the manual says 5.5 qts, but it's bang on full after adding 5qts, then check the sump for the bones of your missing Trunk Monkey.
