I've seen engines with 4 quarts overfilled drive right into my bay without issues.

I've seen it cause many many issues. I'll share a few.

2005 911 Turbo, I overfilled the system due to inexperience, I drained the sumps and turbos, then put in 8 liters, it called for 11, apparently I missed a few steps and wildly overfilled the engine. It blew oil into the turbos on the highway that evening and I got a nasty call from my boss.

1992 Tercel 1.5, they take barely 3 liters of oil, I put in 3.5, the engine oil blew right past the rings due to foaming and blew smoke again.

Last one, an absent minded co-worker overfilled a 3.5 highlander... by double. He never drained it. It caused mega misfires and smoke, it took awhile to diagnose it haha.

The problem is the foaming, and with new turbos coming back on the market, some manufacturers are actually saying to underfill them intentionally to the half mark.

That said, the v6 tacomas dont care if theres a little too much. But the new 2.4 you want to be careful.

It’s always been my opinion that putting engine oil in an engine is kinda like putting milk and a baby.

If you put too little, it will just want more. If you put too much, it’s gonna puke it out everywhere.

Right out of tech school I drained the front diff on a Subaru thinking it was the oil pan, over-filled the engine by 4.5 qts and sent it down the road. That one came back on a hook.

    :anonymous:

1/2 qt is probably fine, but these are nice quality expensive trucks. I feel like it's worth your time to crawl under there and drain a bit. The 92 Cressida beater I drove in high-school? meh..

If you had a fumoto it would take less than 30 seconds :D

I have been hiding in my closet for years rocking in a fetal position worrying about this. I can now rejoin society as a productive citizen.

I am a little OCD. I do all maintenance myself. Get the oil level on all my Toyota vehicles just under the top dot on the dipstick when the engine is cool. Between oil changes the level stays just under the top dot which makes me a Happy Camper.

Any amount over max/full is too much.

    6 quarts + 6.4 ounces = Full

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Also, the engines these guys use come from Soviet era Trabants, Volga... etc. Can't compare these to modern low tension piston rings and aluminum construction. Not saying they were better but a little more robust maybe.
