Which proves drive styles contribute a lot to mpg.

Same engine in Lexus makes over 300hp, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. The OV tunes are actually very conservative. The biggest difference is the low end power when tuned, Toyota limited a lot of torque down low, not sure why. I get same MPGs now as I got in the summer on stock tune, I’m happy. The engine just sounds happier too.

The “performance” premium fuel tune I’m running only adds like 15-20 hp and tq.

edit: I was on the fence for the longest time but kept reading how the MT guys were raving about the SFOB tune(full Otto cycle) So one day I said: “F it, I’ll try it!” I’m happy I did:)

    Agree 100%.

To be honest he drives kind of like a grandma and me not so much, which makes it kind of strange. I took him for a ride in my truck the other day and went up to like 5.5k rpms on the ramp, he said I’m crazy and that he never drives like that, haha.

...and that is where this engine is efficient.

Lol have your buddy read the article I wrote on why he gets the mpg he gets. It's in the stickies I think or at the bottom of my posts as a link.

Haha! Don’t think I can get him to read stuff on TW. He logged in a few times on here, just not a fan of TW for some reason. He is not upset about his MPGs or anything.

I did read that thread though, it’s quite interesting, you usually provide good content.

Hmm I might have to get the tune just because why not. ONLY adds 15-20 that's a big diff for this little beater motor

Not sure if your truck is AT or MT, but the full Otto cycle tune is for MTs only. ATs have a performance tune as well, but I believe it’s not as aggressive, someone please correct me if I’m wrong. The base tunes dont really add any power, they just improve drivability and improve the low end torque.

You won’t be disappointed with the tune for sure. The low end power is night and day vs stock and the throttle response feels almost like a cable throttle.

I have an AT. Yeah, I would prob do the performance one and just drive slow until I need to step on it. Or if I was towing my trailer or something

Sorta. You can get decent looking AT tires in a reasonable weight. The OEM tire weighs 37 lbs The new Maxxis RAZR I think weighs 38 lbs, compared to the Fallen that weighs 45.

But if folks choose the most popular, cool looking AT, theyll probably land on an LT, that will be a lot heavier. An E Rated BFG weighs 55 lbs.

Just get Toyo AT3W, the tire weight difference is small enough that you won't feel the performance/mpg drop much.

If you get heavier ones like 45 pounds or above you will start to notice it more.

Use the tire size tool to see actual rpm change. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc
You can also play with different axle ratios. Final drive ratio is optimized for Toyota Corp needs based on tire size and package so there’s lots of room for change there to optimize for your particular needs instead. It’s true that nothing is free but if the compromise that came standard doesn’t work for you then choose a different compromise.

Been thinking about this tire for my next set. Thread pattern and siping look really good, just wish the sidewall was beefier. I had AT2s on my work van and they were great tires.

    Got any pics?

My ST Maxx's at #59 laugh at these puny numbers.

Serious note to OP, notice around town the increased mass if you're hustling it, but honestly with the way I drive, I did not notice too big of a diff going from 265's to 255's. And on the highway or passing people? 0 difference. You're using top end power at that point anyways.

Still tows normally as well, other than the new RPM's I work at vs. before.

I went from 265/70 to 265-75 and didn't notice anything different at all.

I still routinely get over 400 miles per tank with an un corrected speedo. Love the 285s coming from 265s.

I did not notice a difference in power or mpg between my stock tires and 265/70/17 KO2s.

You said you went from 255 to 265, but the stock OR tires are 265, I’m a bit confused here.
