If you think that is bad you should see my 2018 that has spent it's whole existence in NY. The engine bay looks like it sat at the bottom of the ocean.

LCAs and exhaust is common to rust. They are replaceable parts so it's no big deal. As long as the body and structure is rust free it doesn't matter in terms of longevity. By the time the LCAs rot through the bushings would need replacement anyways. The exhaust is subject to high heat and high moisture but any high grade metal should hold up fine. As long as Toyota doesn't use the same supplier in Mexico for their pipes as Nissan does, we should be fine.

I truly think Toyota is cheapening out on the steel they're using in the trucks. Could possibly be that they changed the supplier since they moved majority of the production south of the border. The old trucks rotted out but they didn't rust like this.

One thing i've learned about rust is to protect the area before it takes hold. If rust is already there and not much can be done to get rid of it...next best thing is to encapsulate it permanently with some sort of coating to prevent any oxygen from getting at the rust.

Its not only them that have rust issues. The companies that don't have big issues are the ones using some sort of prevention on their chassis before the dealer sells them to the public. Take bmw and mercedes..both coat their chassis with cosmoline before they leave their plants.

I dont think the chemical reaction that causes rust to form on steel cares where the metal originated.......

I wouldn’t even consider that rust. Up here in New England we are all experts on rust. Check out my bronco. If you look closely you might be able to spot a few pinholes in the floor. You might have to squint a bit.

I think there's more to it then just a final rust proofing before leaving the assembly line. Don't they dip the body/frame in a rust preventative solution before painting? If it truly came down to a final spray I don't know why toyota wouldn't do it.

If you are working 60 or more hours a week and live in snow country it's hard to keep up with . My last truck was red and the liquid salt from the PA turnpike you could hardly even see any red sometimes .
