Hey guys, looking to buy a taco coming up. Don't really know what the deal is with rust however i know that they're known for it. Here's an album, does this look bad to you? He said he got the frame recall spray done. It's a 2007

2007? Don't look so bad to me.
Had a 2008 that was worse than that, eventually got the frame replaced.

Beat on it with a hammer and see if you can make a hole, looks like trash and a bitch to work on with likely seized bolts everywhere.

Pretty sure this is past it's replacement period, so you wouldn't recommend this for a long term vehicle i presume haha.

Vehicle is a 5hr drive from me, which is why I'm trying to gauge how bad it is prior to showing up.

Well definitely bring a ball peen hammer. I’d be surprised if a hole wasn’t found. Toyota’s crappy encapsulating frame coat from its first round of CRC program doesn’t appear to have done this truck any favors.

If it is from a state that salts roads during winter, would not buy. I have seen trucks from those places and they look like they were left out on a beach and never washed. Lol..... Those pics don't look too bad but the hammer advice sounds right.

I don’t think the seller will allow you to beat on the frame with a hammer.

I would pass, there are better trucks out there. It looks like the rust is delaminating the diff and axles.

I’d pass. If you’re iffy on the stuff you can see in the pics, imagine what might be hiding in the spots you can’t easily snap in a pic

This truck is shit. its got another year or two in it look at the delamination of the frame.. Bet those front cab mounts have the consistency of dirt. Negative OP, keep looking.

Nevermind, its a total disaster. Current owner of that truck cut his cab mounts almost clean off! :rofl:check out the last picture.

22K CAD / 18.2K USD. It has 260xxx KM /161xxx miles. Toyota market kind of crazy where i am right now along the west coast of Canada,

It's completely built and setup for wheeling on 35's though, elocker in the front, regeared, sliders/plates/bumpers/swingouts, diffdrop/break lines/spindle gussets ect, on a long box. Which is everything i'd be doing to a truck when i buy it.

18k for a rusted out truck with 260,000 k,might be built, but that build is worn out and toast,so HARD PASS.

Keep looking. You have to make an effort to take care of any vehicle, and when doing so, taking in to consideration your locale and environmental challenges when doing so. From what i see, that guy did none of this, and that vehicle is melting fast. You can only turn back time, so much, and that one has not been taken care of.

That’s what bothers me the most when people say “normal for a northern vehicle”, and I’m just thinking yeah normal for a northern vehicle that saw no frame care. Minor surface/surface weld rust is expected but the degree in those photos is a vehicle that is near the end of its structural lifespan from lack of rust protection.

Its about average for a rust belt truck. I've seen worse, but its definitely getting there. I'd be blasting it good with fluid film if planning on keeping it for awhile I did my 2001 tundra every year with fluid film since nearly new....it looked about the same when i sold it last year. 292k miles driven in the new england, and quebec.

A piece of advice that someone told me on here when I was looking for a truck. If a truck is far away, post on here its location and see if someone is local to the truck and is willing to go check it out for you!
