but it's a midsize truck with 130,000 miles on it. 5 grand is still a lot. That's more than what I want to pay.

Bought mine in last April, 2012 Trail team TRD sport V6 5 spd auto 6 foot bed, double cab, 214 768km (133,451 miles) 23k$ CAD. Got a 700$ reduction on the listed price before the price hike and the low inventory. Usual Quebec surface rust on the frame. This truck was always serviced at the dealer all oil change @ 8000 km. Clean oil pan and trans pan. 198-200 psi each cylinder at the compression test. Clean interiror only the driver seat was used.

Now for the same price you get a 2009 with around the same km, there some listing for the east Canada with 260 000 km++ around 20k $ CAD. Shit just crazy.

One of my friend paid 15k$ 3 year ago, 2007 with a complete new frame assembly (brake,leaf,shock..) 178 000km. Price only goes up.

Right now the used car market is absolutely out of control! & the new market is just as bad.

IMO, I way over paid for my 05 sr5 access cab w/148k & came with all maintenance records...... payed 12500.... similar ones have gone for anywhere between $15,000 and $19,000 and even upwards.... unfortunately this is just the market that we are stuck in. At some point it'll probably level off closer to what it should be. Though, don't know if anything will ever go back down to where it truly should be at...

Yeah at the risk of getting back lash, but a 16 year old truck with roughly a hundred and fifty thousand miles is only truly worth in the range of 5 to $8,000 maximum. Just a few years ago before all of this bull$#¡+, that's all it would have been worth.

Anybody that wants to think they know better, I'll give you some examples:
1~ My friend just bought an $84,000 Chevy 2500 Duramax fully loaded... he is put about almost 1,000 miles on it. He went back to the dealership to get a part replaced that they told him they would replace on day one when he bought it. I mean you're spending 84000 they may as well replace the scuffed-up front seat that the salesman scratched. Anyway when he took it in they offered him $9,000 over what he paid for it if he would sell it right then and there to them........... this being said explain to me how the hell a used truck can be bought back by the dealership nearly $9,000 more than you paid for it brand new? You know if they're willing to pay $9,000 over what you paid, they're going to add another ten thousand at the top of that for their profit on the next sale.
2~ His friend in Portland add an 05 trd access cab 6 Speed with approximately 115000 miles. The dealership gave him $29,000
He bought a fully loaded Chevy 2500 Duramax as well. This is why he was looking to sell his Tacoma. He had it listed on the internet and the dealership literally called him the offer him that kind of money. When they put it up for sale oh, they listed it for nearly 10 grand over what they gave him. Don't know what it actually sold for.

The reason this crap is happening is because there's a shortage on new cars and chips for the new cars this being said oh, they have stopped production on most new cars. This trickles down to the used car market making the price of everything used go way up.

^That's only part of the story. The supply chain stuff is a part of the more recent increases in Tacoma's but they were already on a pretty extreme price increase trajectory and have been for 3-5yrs. Mainly due to the overlanding/4x4 craze that's been going on. The recent, pandemic induced, stuff is just the cherry on top this sundae that's been getting bigger for a while.

Two years ago I bought my truck (2010 DCLB Sport, 6cyl 4x4, 190k) for $16k which was at or below market value. A couple years earlier it probably would have been worth $14k and now it's probably worth $18k. I hate that I bought at a high price and completely expect to lose money on the purchase. But, the trips it's allowing me to take and the things it's allowing me to do are well worth it. If it were my daily driver that I was just racking up miles on then that may be a different story. But mine sits covered in the driveway between adventures.

5 grand isn't going to get on the lot today. I have 113K miles on my '11. I wouldn't even consider 5 grand for it, that would be an insult.

    None... yet
I bought my 2007 Prerunner V6 6-Speed Manual SR5 with 115K on it about 3 years ago for $11,500. This was right at Blue Book. I have checked the KBB value recently and private party is $10,500-$13,300 and that is with 140K on it.
So as others have said, the used car market is crazy right now. I saw the same Tacoma as mine, almost exactly the same and the guy was asking $15,000 for it with about the same mileage.
I usually go with Edmunds and KBB values.

5 grand wont take you far Today. MSRP on my truck was between 22 and 23,000. I don't think it should of cost more than $10,000 when new.

What's the MSRP on a new TRD Pro Tacoma $45,500 or there about. Those trucks should retail for $30,000 and go down in price accordingly for each trim level. Pros sell for more than MSRP, and are valued above MSRP used.

$10,000 brand new? Why are you even opining on this if you know that your opinion of price is way out of sync with market prices?

Especially when you paid more than 2x what you thought your own truck was worth, if I am understanding your comment correctly.

Kind of like fuel prices, you gota pay what the station says. Regardless of what the customer thinks fuel should cost. I don't think I ever met a person who didn't think fuel should be priced lower than the lowest price that they have ever payed.

I think a 90k 2022 Ford Raptor should retail for 45k. That price still sounds high to me, and wouldn't want to pay that much.

I don't think there is salvage yard in the country that would give you more than 1k for a perfectly good 2012 Tacoma, if a person was crazy enough to salvage a perfectly good Tacoma.

but if someone asks “how much should I be paying for a gallon of gas?”, it’s not helpful tell them your ideal price in a fantasy world. You tell them the real world price. IMHO

In May of ‘18 I paid $17k for this ‘10 OR with 4.0/6 speed manual with 104k miles. I see comparables on Craigslist and dealer lots high teens to low twenties. A6119A20-CA83-400A-A3F4-4B58E885D88C.jpg

The seller will list what price the buyer should be paying. Then it's the buyer's responsible to pay the price they want to pay.

If the correct awnser for the OP was market price. Then the OP should be paying the market price for a 2011 Toyota Tacoma with $130,000 miles.

Which I guarantee is too much money to be paying for a truck with that amount of miles on it. That of course is the only way a person is going to be able to purchase a used truck in this market.
