Car And Driver and Edmunds mention the erratic shifting. Edmunds also mentions the vibration in the pedal.

I can relate and I'm feel I'm qualified to comment instead of offer my opinion. I leased a 2015 back in August thinking I'd wait two years for the kinks to be worked out on the 3rd Gen. That wasn't the case for me. I must've had a bad truck off the line cause that damn that was terrible. Yes I bought a truck without a test drive. It had 2miles on the odo when I saw it. Anyway, wheels were vibrating like crazy, noisy cabin, and the mpg was nowhere near what was shown on the window sticker. I was so fed up and tired of the wheels shaking that I replaced all four tires, road force and balance a few times, and got a couple alignments. Still the same issue.

Long story short, I bought out my lease in November with the intention of selling. Put a deposit down for my current truck in MT configuration. When the dealer called me a month later saying they got the allocation and VIN #, I put the truck up for sale on CL. Truck was sold within 2 days for my full asking price. I did a bunch of research (KBB, Edmunds, eBay, and CL markets within 300 mile radius) to see what a fair price would be for the 2015. Prior to going the CL route, I took it to the dealers to see what they would give me for trade-in. It was laughable because the offers were between $4-$5K less than what I received selling it privately. Oh, I had my truck for a total of 4 months and a little under 8000 miles on my 2015 Tacoma OR when sold.

To answer your question, you're looking at a hit between $4K-$5K off private party value for "great" to "excellent" condition. You're better off selling your accessories separate. And if you don't want to take a loss or deal with the hassle of selling it yourself, try selling thru a 3rd party like Vroom, Beepi, or carvana. And if you're in AZ or NV, you're better off selling private party anyway. There are lots of people in these two states who loves to buy private party because of no sales tax for used vehicles when purchased from private party.

We bought a 2016 Forester 2.5i Premium (no turbo) back in August. We have about 12,000 miles on it now. It's been nothing but awesome so far.

True. But is tacomaworld a good place to research the value of his truck, or possibly nada.com or kbb.com?

There was obviously a loaded reason why he made his first post and it was to vent and express his opinion, which other members should also be free to post at that point.

Something isn't right..... it sounds to me like the transmission is slipping. That would account for everything you are saying. I'm not familiar with the Toyota Transmission, but I'm familiar with GM. I built a couple of different engines for a couple of different 1986 Monte Carlo SS's. taking them off of the computer (computer controlled carburetors Yay!) and had a similar experience (though not as drastic) until I made an electronic switch that would allow me to lock up the torque converter (which was a loose one at that, on purpose though).

That is the same line of shit Subaru fed me the whole time I had my Outback. I was eating a quart in less than 3k from the day I left the lot and it was close to a quart in 2k when I got rid of it 3k miles before the drivetrain warranty ran out.

Take the advice that people are giving you. Strip off the accessories. Sell the truck for the best deal you can get, and move on with life. Otherwise you are just going to be miserable. Good luck finding any vehicle that doesn't have a few issues. Even a $165,000 viper still has manual seat adjustment.
I have had a few issues with my new truck but i knew what I was getting into buying a first year of a new models and the risk involved.
I have been patient and addressed the issues. Maybe 3 hours of time and less than $100. I get the argument that it's a $39000 vehicle and you shouldn't have to. But hell people are spending thousands and many more hours to do mods to get their trucks the way the want them, so I consider it an investment in peace of mind. I have received satisfactory resolution with Toyota for my trouble. I love my truck and have no regrets.
So if you think you can do better, DO IT!!

Trade in depends on quite a few things, these trucks really do hold their values. Pull your mods off, they add no value. I just traded in my 15 DCSB 2.7 Prerunner for 22k, I paid 23k for it 1 year 4 months and 20,000 miles ago. I lost a whopping 1k plus tax and doc fee so 1,230. Even add in my tire upgrade(trying to fix the ride so I didn't have to trade), fog lights backup camera and tailgate lock I had to leave on as I didn't have the old tires and the other mods checked off option marks on resale, still under 2,500 for 20k miles. Recent personal health issues has turned the ride from almost tolerable to punishing and I needed something that rode better. Got 1k under invoice(2800 off MSRP) on a new Subaru Outback.

I was actually offered 22,500 against a Colorado and 500 under invoice on that truck but then I realized I would have a GM and all of the depreciation and problems that come with them.....:puke:

Work at it, shop around and haggle, they started $1400 worse on their first offer at Subaru, last day of the month does make a difference.

Ditto! That's my exact personal experience with Subaru. Only had one thirsty Toyota and it was an 89 4Runner that blew its head gasket. Other than that I have owned a half a dozen others that were SOLID!

25,000 miles on our 15 Legacy, haven't consumed any noticeable oil. It has done daily commuting with my wife and multiple PA mountain trips as well as a KY, TN, NC mountain trip. That car sold me on my 16 Outback.

I have a 2016 Subaru Outback and am thinking of trading it for a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off road when it becomes available. Even considering a late model 2nd gen with low mileage, if I can manage to find one nearby.

The Outback is a great car. Truly the versatile pocket knife of all cars. Jack of all trades, master of none.
