Seems like you came in here with a question for the community, didnt receive the answer that would validate your already formed opinion and then did what you wanted anyway.

I'm pretty sure you can only have liability insurance on a salvaged vehicle. Think about that before you buy that thing.

Don't wanna start fight but sounds like a salvage title means its a POS and worth 90% of original price so pretty much $4000? When I can part it for WAY more...

Dealers will be will negotiate on 13's now too. New 13's, with a warranty. Wouldn't brand new be worth 5 - 6k more? But again its your money, spend it how you like.

Don't buy someone elses problems. There is a reason they want to unload it and a reason that the insurance company wouldn't fix it. Think of it this way, who ever owned that truck when it was wreaked got the money for a new truck from the insurance company.

You can buy a NEW 4x4 Tacoma double cab longbed Trd Sport at invoice price for 30k. After tax, title and tag you would pay about 32k. A new truck that hasn't been trashed and has a warranty.

There are 3+ dealers found for 97204 zip code in Portland Oregon with prices around $28k for a brand new 2013 DCLB 4x4.

    source: truecar.com

that's 3 chances to find a dealer who will honor this price, or play them against one another and still end up looking at under 30k.

So, I would do that... and please, don't consider dropping a sizable amount of $ on a salvage title vehicle again.

Seriously go to capital Toyota they had a bunch for around 30k and they would probably be willing to deal in order to get the 2014 models in

Not necessarily true. In NYS, law allows for the owner of a vehicle less than 1 year old to have a new vehicle instead of repairs. I once bought a salvaged Grand Am (6 mos. old/4k miles) for my daughter this way. The price was way below market pricing. Unsure if the damage has to meet a certain threshold, but do know if it does, it is far less than 70-80%.

If you have bought 7 salvage vehicles then why are you asking for opinions on value from people who haven't bought any salvage vehicle? Seems like you should be asking experienced salvage buyers that question.

All of the above answers were opinions per your question, these guys are trying to HELP you, not hurt you.

My advice, walk away and find a new one or a good used one with a little more miles for that price, they are out there.

If it was a recovered stolen it would have a salvage title or show zero miles and that's probably where the damage came in too. Some one is going to make a lot of money on that deal spend the extra bucks and get a new one you'll be better off in the long run.

Salvage titles go a LOT more lower than a couple of grand. I have dealt with these before and you can count on this: when salvaged, most vehicles are branded if anywhere between 50% and 75% of vehicle value. This depends on the insurance company. The other thing you can count on is that if the place that is offering this truck to you has done what little repairs that were mentioned then they DIDN'T repair the rest of the underlying issues, thus in my opinion are trying to scam you, and is violating disclosure laws IF they performed repairs that they did not tell you about. A fully repaired/restored salvage title vehicle is worth about 70% of what a unsalvaged vehicle is worth of the same year/make/model. This is because it cannot be fully insured. NO insurance company will give you full coverage. This decreases the perceptive value, thus decreasing actual value.

No, Toyota will wipe it's hands of ANY vehicle that has been salvaged. Even recalls will not be honored, because they are not required to honor them on a salvaged title vehicle.

New York State law says that any vehicle 8 years old OR NEWER and sustaining more than 75% of it's value in damage MUST receive a branded title before returning it to service. This was taken directly from the New York DMV website.

Insanity. Pure utter insanity. Do not buy that truck. $30k? You can buy off the showroom floor for that money. They will even wash and wax it for you and give you free oil changes and tire rotations for 25k miles.

Here's my opinion on it. I currently have a dodge dakota that was rebuilt. As someone else had stated. In order for the insurance company to write off a 2013 tacoma. It would have had to have a lot of damage. I paid 30,250$ + tax for my new dbl cab sport 4x4 short bed. For that kind of money you could almost buy a brand new one with warranty and free maintenance for 2 years. Also some insurance companies won't insure a previously totalled vehicle. Thats a lot of money to put into a rebuilt truck. I personally wouldnt do it. I only gave 5 grand for my dodge. I planned on beatin on it anyways! Ask for pictures of truck when it was in its damaged state.

I have never bought a Salvage title vehicle but have considered it in the past. In my opinion if the title is salvaged (due to damage) then the max value of that vehicle is 50% of its original value or a little less then the amount that you could part it out for (which ever is less).

If it were me, I wouldn't give that guy $18k.

I would run away fast. I paid 29k for my DCLB sport 4x4 with 3 miles new off the Toyota lot.
