You'll be lucky to break even on them and often mods will reduce your pool of potential buyers.

haha thanks all! I have some stock parts, some I would have to re-purchase. I'll need to decide if it is worth it to me to do that. I'm not even sure I'm going to sell, just considering at this point.

Mods will scare away potential buyers. Some will think you play to hard and there’s a possibility something is wrong and that’s why your selling a newer truck so soon.

The good news is that in the days of "IG Overlanding Extravaganza" there is a reasonably healthy market for turn key trucks listed for exorbitant prices. But just because some moron will pay 70Gs for a tacoma doesn't mean it is "worth" that.

I don't know anything about how you installed and what corners you cut so to me, the value is reduced. Also, mods can means it is 4x4ed or 'abused'. Now I realize my plans are to abuse it too but I want to abuse it first! Mods add a negative value to me.

Definitely not a sound investment strategy if anyone is looking to get money back out of the stuff.

Some - Will list later - has lift and new wheels and rubber
Hears the deal when I took in my 2013 JK with all sorts of do dad's and trinkets on it. Bumpers winch, lift etc. They stated to me that they would not give me any credit on them but they want to have me pay for the extras on their Managers demo. We worked out a compromise. Paid 25% of their cost. I got 0% on mine. It's just the way it is.

What it's worth is by definition what someone's willing to pay. The risk you run doing modifications is it limits the pool of potential buyers. With such a new truck modifications are usually losses but at some point having new suspension and obviously taking care of a truck starts to reduce how much it depreciates. A 10 year old Tacoma that's on worn out springs and blown shocks would make me start to question if the seller bothered to maintain the thing at all.

When I traded in my '01 for my current '09 the dealership said mods and accessories add zero value. I said ok and they quoted my on my trade-in. Had to wait a week for my new '09 to come in from a dealer in another state. While I was waiting I removed everything I could and sold the items on TW. I took off aux lighting, large tires/aftermarket wheels (luckily I had my stockers still), wet okole seat covers, husky floor mats, tonneau cover, etc... When I went to drop it off at the dealer and pickup my new truck they didn't even look at it. Drove off with my new truck and on my way home I get a call from the dealer. Guy says "didn't that truck have different wheels/tires and some lights on the bumper....." I said yup but you didn't quote me on that stuff. Since that stuff was of zero value to you, I took it all off. Guy said "uh, ok". Sold the stuff on here and made about $1500.

I had a dealership say they took $400 off their offer for my '13 because the clearcoat on the Leer tonneau was peeling. I asked how much it would be worth if I took it off. They were shocked that it was removable.

Long story short, I sold the truck 3 days after listing it myself.

Same when we traded in our 05; Dealership said it had to have road worthy tires- all of my other stuff they had zero interest in. I pulled off lights, lightbar, roof rack, canopy, cb, Ham, skidplates, and everything else I could take off overnight before it went in - I even pulled the switches out of the dash for my added mods..

I should've taken the front bedrail for my 17..
