Take the tailgate off load the safe. It's more then the recomended weight but it should do fine. I've had over 1200 lbs in my bed.
As for the tailgate on the 05s mine folded loading my sportbike.

Hi. Anyone have issues with the knobs the tailgate support cables are attached to on the gate? Mine seem like they want to pull out. I load a fairly heavy snowmobile but based in all I have read the tailgate seems to be the issue people have. Any input? Thanks!

I bent mine years ago loading up a single person jet ski sliding it up the tailgate. Replaced with a relentless reinforcement panel and was able to use a rubber mallet to hammer the tailgate back before I put the panel on and you can’t even tell it was ever bent. But yeah 500 ish lbs in a concentrated force on the middle of the tailgate will bend them all day long

My '06 holds about a 12 pack without buckling. I haven't got around to reinforcing it yet.

Time to revive this thread of 2012. I'm getting ready to go to a job in New Mexico. Driving from Kansas City. I'm loading up my Harley (680lbs) Let's just call it 700. I've got a set of ramps to get it up into the truck, but the back wheel will be about 2" from the edge of the tailgate when down. That's the contact patch of the back tire. Anyone know about the tailgate weight rating or had any experience loading a 700lb bike where about 350 will be on the center of the tailgate? I'm thinking of using a piece of plywood to distribute the load. Looking for people with real experience.
There was a person back in 2012 that said read the manual, but my 2016 doesn't have anything in it about weight rating. Even if it did, the weight won't be spread across the surface, it will be concentrated in the contact patch of the tire so call it 4" x 6" probably at most. Thoughts? and more importantly Experiences?
