how much would i get out of my truck

    Yeah a locked diff on the pavement is no good Id look for a new 3rd.

    i would just keep my eye out at the local junk yards and look for the gears or the whole rear diff, usually around here they go for about $100 for the rear diff or 50-75 for the gears.....that is if you can locate one. good luck

    just look for a first gen 6 lug tacoma or 3rd gen 4 runner to pull the 3rd member out of. Not sure of any other vehicles with compatible 3rd's. Also you need one without the e-locker.

    I think the housing is different, not sure though.

    Humm I thought they were both 8.4's

    Edit: it looks like they are different housings

    just did some research and it looks like you're right. They are interchangeable.

    Im so confused.

    OP I say just try and find an open diff third to swap in and skip the hassle.

    Okay Ive read enough to say the TRD and the non TRD 3rd's are not interchangeable.

    So OP for you to have a locker you will need to swap out the whole housing otherwise just buy a non E locker 3rd member.
