There’s trails everywhere in the NFs down here. You could go out for weeks just exploring all the back roads and waterways.

Yes 2nd gen but 2nd gen axles are same stregth as 1st gen from my knowledge. At least diff size. I know 3rd gen has a slightly bigger diff but don't really think its anything to wright home about. My philosophy is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Of course thats if you can afford it.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

That trail is Dusy/Ershim trail. It's like Rubicon only longer, harder and with no bypasses.

In that video I'm still on stock CVs

This happened a couple days later https://youtube.com/shorts/Gj6SgAiwRO4?feature=share ... that's how you break CVs. (You can click the link for more details on what happened, but I broke both CVs that day)

I just completed Long Travel this winter. For now I'm on stock 1st Gen Tundra axles. Next winter I'll be on RCVs.

As far as 8.0 vs 8.4... My truck is a really HEAVY pig. I run trails at around 6000 pounds fully loaded for a trip like that Dusy trip (5 days on the trail, Dusy is 31 miles long). (Gross weight on a GX470 is about 6200)

Also something to note is trails in southeast are vastly different than out west in certain aspects where wheel slippage happens more frequently because of all the slippy mud. I can crawl out of mud pits instead of slashing mud up everywhere speeding through them. Because being double locked.

    I don't think it is.

We're watching that area pretty close because we're planning Swamp Lake trail in July.
(Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to do Dusy this Sept. I don't think they are going to open it this year)

I would invest in a winch as the 1st line of defense.

That looks very similar to the trails around here. I think it’s a lot harder to break axles on our trails than it is out west since everything’s so slippery like you were saying. The flip side of that is even mild looking obstacles can be tough out here because of the lack of traction. Idk if you would’ve made it out of that mud pit with open diffs. My truck being only 3800 lbs or so helps a bit, but still.

Yea it’s just tough to find one that works with the stock bumper like we were saying on the lunch table thread the other day. I wanted to avoid heavy bumpers and the like to keep my weight down.

And if someone did, please for the sake of everyone's safety, they should learn how to implement it.

Know the 'danger' zones of said winch, maintain communication (with parties involved) to watch for possible vehicle roll-over, and put a damn damper or two on that line.

You don't put a winch on a stock bumper though; that's never been a thing.

A mount must be utilized between the front frame horns for proper mounting. From there, trim stock bumper for clearance and fitment.

Hm it doesn’t look like you shockloaded it there. It must’ve been from you trying to turn the wheels while so much weight was on them?

Lmk if you have a build thread but I’m curious if you still have the stock rack and 7.5” front.

Is there a winch mount for the stock bumper setup? I'm going that route with the LC.

I found this thread but I’m not sure if these were ever mass produced. It might have to be a custom set up like @Kwikvette was saying. In fact I could use his help with that if I was closer to Ca.

They're not as weak as a handful of people make it sound.

More people that run locked up front than you'd guess, especially on this forum.

Just cause one or two people say you shouldn't, doesn't mean they know more than the rest that do run them.

I bet it'd be easy to fab up.

Plenty of people sell a standard tray for said mount, just up to someone to fabricate mounting points to a vehicle which isn't hard.
