Picked up a 2009 with 50k on it about a month ago. Put 1500 miles on it and love the truck, but I noticed the steering wheel vibrates at idle. Not crazy, but you can feel it when im stopped at a red light. Seems to be more so when I'm running the defroster. Sometimes you can actually see the steering wheel vibrating. I brought this to the attention to the dealer and they checked it out. I told them it doesnt always happen and you have to drive the truck for a while before you really notice it. Well they said everything looks good and these trucks tend to have a vibration at idle. So what say you Tacoma veterans? Normal?

Physical turning shake of the wheel or just intense vibration to the point you can see it?

Curious, what does your truck idle at with no a/c or defroster running?

It's been totaled, but it was in the 6-650 range IIRC. No higher than 700.

    Also wasn't a V6.

Yea no turning or shaking just a vibration, you can feel it also if you put your hand on the dash, but not as intense.

Oh ok, my fathers 4 cylinder doesn't vibrate either. I should have specified it was a v6.

That was normal before and after my truck was fixed, fixed as in 80% damage claim but couldn't total because it wasn't 85%... Fucking guy ran yield and rode up on the driver side front wheel into engine bay... our v6 has a pretty substantial displacement at 4L compared to other v6's, only other 4L v6 i've rode in was Ford ranger and it felt almost the same. You're gonna get vibrations either way, it's the vibrations you get while driving, or actual steering wheel turn vibrations that you need to worry about, alignment or properly torquing the wheels with a torque wrench instead of using an air impact gun will ease vibration while driving. You bought a truck, remember that.

    Eh.

He bought a 2009 with 50k miles. Not an 70/80s F series or GM.

Vibes and general "is my truck a piece of shit" feelings don't apply to this situation.

When you spend $9k on a truck, you can assume the shakes are part of the bargain. Gonna say OP spent 3x that, shouldn't have issues with light use (less than 10k annually).

Hope my post didnt come off as whiney, I naturally dont trust most things a dealer says. Truck came with a very short warranty so if it was something that needed to be adressed, I want it fixed.

I figured it wasnt a major issue since the truck drives great, just maybe something was loose. If it is normal then im fine with that and can move on to the chattering noise the heater makes!

    I'm used to higher prices.

Hopefully more will chime in, but all my friends have V6s, and none have wheel vibes at idle.

    @AR15xAR10 do you?

Its not a concern to me if its a normal thing that other guys experience. Before this I owned a subaru that I bought with 30k on it and it had a vibration to it as well. Was told something with the horizontal whatever on them caused a vibration. Put over a 100k on it with no problems so I guess it was just a normal thing that they do.

Completely normal. It's been there ever since I purchased my truck. It's a slight vibration that you can really only feel if you're paying close attention. I don't notice it as much in drive as I do in park.

Not at all, at least you have concern and are willing to either
    A: Deal with it
    or
B: Bring it in instead of choking behind a keyboard because you think you bought a "lemon"

Bring it in for that short warranty, have em test drive with you to address concerns, both vibrations and heater chatter.
By heater chatter, are you referring to the fan itself or the heat exchanger?
