Word on the street is that was ATRAC patrol. If you dont use ATRAC they will hunt you down and probe you until you agree that ATRAC is best. They already did it to one guy on here

Well I tried it for myself instead of taking their advice, and in the dirt you can steer just fine. The issue is on pavement, so once again thanks for the pointless lecture

Sure... and we have A-TRAC to keep us moving in low range so the rear locker may never get used by us in '09+ Off Road 4WD Tacomas. 2WDs with it will use it a whole lot more, because 2WD can get stuck a lot easier than 4WD.

It is called discussion my friend, and because you find no value in my posts doesn't mean that hundreds of other viewers here are not open to some assistance or education.

PS... Toyota says there are steering issues. I didn't make the warning sticker. lol

But what you dont understand is when someone asks a question about their locker engaging they are not looking for an ATRAC education class from you. You think everyone NEEDS to know about ATRAC when thousands of other viewers could care less. Anyways back to the ignore list

Oh yes, I am a bad person for adding more than what was asked... shame on me, let's not educate anyone beyond what was asked and possibly awaken new knowledge!!! Back uner my A-TRAC rock I go... bye! ;)

The Off Road package means you have an open rear differential with an e-locker.

If you have the DAC button, then you have the TRAC package which turns your differentials into brake assisted limited slip difs (including the front if you are 4wd).

I just found out that if you have a locker you have a open diff and some of ther other models depending on options could have had a LSD. But no LSD with lockers at least in 2006.

Trying to find out if there is a reliable/easy way to lock the front. Not sure why Toyota could not have put a e-locker on the front as an option.

    Wrong. :)

They are in the same package. Whether or not they have a TRAC/VSC button depends on if they are a 2005-2006 (no TRAC/VSC button), or 2007-2008 (TRAC/VSC button). That's why I asked if he had a DAC button. If so, he has TRAC.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
If I'm wheelin my diff is locked sometimes I unlock it if the wheelin is fast but I mostly rock crawl. I don't understand why guys would only lock it to get unstuck. The only time I would lock and unlock a locker wile wheelin is a front locker. Most trailer rigs have a spool for the rear so your locked at all times.

And to clear up the A-TRAC battle it's like hitting your brakes and gas at the same time not like having front and rear lockers. It applies the brakes to the slipping tire giving you more traction and a good driver and do the same thing Lockers give forward traction at all times. David K must have stock in the technology because that's all he talks about

No stock, just very impressed in what the A-TRAC does for this truck... and it totally eliminated the need to spend $$$ more for a front locker, totally!

It only brakes the slipping tire down to the same rotation as the traction tire... your front locker does the same thing by gearing the two together... The A-TRAC allows for some slip when needed to steer, but holds firm when pulling the truck over an obsticle. An old 4WD trick when stuck with one wheel spinning was to press a little on the brake to divide the torque... A-TRAC uses spin sensors and the computer to do a much better job, and as I said, unlike limited slip, it actually stops the slip like a locker.

I was laughing as soon as I read the title.

In my testing ATRAC definitely helps but in the ruts and rocks it gets overwhelmed sometimes and starts clicking and making all sorts of alarming noises and stops moving the truck forward. Engaging the E locker gets the truck moving where ATRAC didn't (in very rough situations). Oh and I hit the RR Diff Lock button, 4lo, ATRAC, at least once a month in a nearby gravel lot just to test and keep it all working.

The weird noises are the atrac working.

You missed the part where his truck stops moving.
