Changing your brake fluid every year or two will definitely prolong the life of the brake components. Sure you can probably go forever without changing, but upon inspection of the system, you will find corrosion and crap. Cheap enough maintanence for peaco of mind, especially for such a critical system. You no stop, you may die.

I flush the brake fluid in my vehicles every 30k. Typical import vehicles' brake fluid won't get as dark as domestic vehicles, so while it looks relatively clean even at 75k miles, the water falls to the wheel cylinders and calipers and can rust the pistons. I bought a Camry with 200k miles that I put an engine in, and I flushed the brake fluid for probably the first time in its life. The fluid that initially came out of the front calipers was almost black, and really thick, the same with the wheel cylinders. I'm kind of spoiled because I use a BG brake flusher machine at work and it only takes me about 15 min.

Nothing in the the maintenance manual even at 120K. Bleeding an ABS system can be a pain. 285K on the old "97" never touched. If you feel you need to do it replace the fluid with DOT 4 and forget it.

Never changed it before in one of my cars. Although, after changing all the brake lines in my 74 vette, I will change every 2-3 years now. It's cheap, gives me a chance to be in the garage w/ vast amounts of beer, and I was amazed at how rusty the inside of the brake lines were on my car. I know, probably not going to keep my taco for 40 years but like I said, vast amounts of beer in a garage can't be wrong.
