Here's the one I got, although I got it from another place, but they no longer carry it.

I just searched google for " refurbished viper 5701 "

    http://www.dpcauto.com/products/Viper-5701-Refurbished-(-White-Box-)-b5202V.html

be advised for our trucks you'll need a key bypass module for the remote start to work.

So if you hit the brake, I'm assuming before you put the key in 'run' mode, it shuts off?
My S10 didn't either so when I got my keyless entry and alarm on the Tacome it was awesome.

ya, it's a form of a kill switch. Same if your remote start it and the truck is somehow unlocked of opened with something that's not the alarm remote it will shut the truck off and sound the alarm

do these systems require splicing/cutting, or are they just plug and play? is the key bypass module purchased separately? Are they model specific?

I bought mine used and the previous owner had it installed. I have a manual though so setting it for remote start is a bit of a pain, and you can't just remote start it if you didn't set it last time you shut it down. So I don't use it much, even though I live in the frosty north.

Yes there is (I have it). The system has to disable the requirement for the clutch to be pressed to start the engine. This means that I can now start my truck anytime without the clutch in, so if I accidentally start it in gear it will start to move.

There is a procedure that must be followed when setting the truck for remote start that ensures the transmission is in neutral. Basically you press a button, remove the key (engine keeps running), exit the vehicle and lock it, at which time the engine stops.

I have an Autopage with this thing, it's a timer I can program to sart the truck any time, up to twice a day, seven days a week. It's awesome in the winter, it starts my truck while I am in the shower and it's in the glove box so it's always in range.

I want one but nobody will install one for me since I have a manual transmission and I don't have the experience to install it myself. Suckers!

    Never had one. Never will.
I Always do a walk around in the am. I want to be in that vehicle when she fires off.

I've seen the results of remote starts.

you can just go to the store and get a new remote or if you feel confident enough buy one off Amazon or ebay and then take it to the shop to have them program it for you

    I've seen.

    blown motor.
    actually 2

Vehicle wasn't charging and died in the driveway.
    starts all by itself.
customer had a pet cat that liked to hang around the engine.
always moved when it heard the truck door open... until.........

I just want to be right there.
Have nothing against you having one.

I hate digging into wiring harnesses for this stuff.
I've installed enough of them. I've taken out twice as many.
    To each there own.........

Not trying to sway you in anyway.
I'm going on my own feelings on this.
If your not in the vehicle, you don't know what's going on.
For myself it's not for me.
Plenty of people have them with no issues.
If you want one. Get IT !!!
