Listen to these peeps! I tried iridiums, got worse mpg. Switched to copper, everything back to normal.

Copper performs better due to less resistance. Iridiums and platinums will last longer. You really should have an ignition system designed for the plug you put in. Just put in cheaper and better performing with your ignition system copper plugs.

Stick with OEM plugs and buy straight from a Toyota dealer. This is the one time ( as well as oil filters) to visit a dealer.

Two pages of this and nothing to back it up. Has anyone run the copper core plugs against iridium in a real test under controlled conditions or is this all done on the butt dyno and seat o meter ? The old get along to go along?

I’d like to know because in other Toyotas I’ve run plugs over 100k without problems. Heck I’ve seen OEM plugs last way past the suggested change interval.

I used Iridium plugs when I did change out at 30k. Why you ask? Lazyness on my part. It was somewhat of a PITA to do plug change and since the Iridium were only a couple of bucks more I put them in to save myself the trouble of a 30k change. Allegedly, they will last 100k (who knows), but even if they only go 60k I have saved myself both time and money. For all the chest beating about how horrible the iridium plugs are, my experience is that I am getting the same MPG and performance from them as the OEM plugs.

I put a set of iridium plugs in my X Runner and ran them over 50k when I sold it. I ran it hard the whole time, is there any other way? It never check gas mileage because I got a heavy foot.

Just replaced original plugs in my (new to me) 09 with Iridium. I'm assuming they were original since there were different brands on each bank and they looked to me to have almost twice the spec'd gap, 120k on the odometer. I figure if the coils provide enough power to jump that gap there won't be any problem overcoming slightly more resistance from the iridium's.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
I like that thinking, but coils will get weaker with age. Like us all.
