I was helping dad clean out his garage today. He has some 5 year old new in bottle Mobil 1 motor oil and some new Toyota oil filters from 2015. I'm inclined to think that age takes it's toll on these when they sit on the shelf and I should throw them out. I may try the oil in lawn mowers and such. What do y'all think?

I'd not hesitate to use the oil. I'd inspect the filters but would probably use them too.

A little of this and a little of that.
    Perfectly usable.

I tend to stock up in quanity. Never had an problem with oem filters or Mobile One oil that's 5 years old. Dad left me cases of Techron fuel additive that's over 10 years old that use it regulary with zero issues.

Brake fluid is the only one I'm not going to keep stored for longer periods.

The oil probably no problem. The filters all depend on how they were stored. I tend to shy away from filters over a couple years old. However that's just my personal opinion.

Well considering that they have spent the last 5 years in a sealed clean container after spending 460 million years under ground in the dirt, I'd say that was less than 0.0000001% of the oils total time on Earth and not really a significant impact on it. Good to Go!
