^This. I had 2000 dodge dakota that would sometimes not start on the first key turn until I realized I could turn the key to "ON" first and let the fuel pump pressurize, then turn it over a second later and boom first crank every time.

In my '15 taco, I noticed the longer cranking time the first day so tried the same trick, but noticed the fuel system doesn't pressurize with the key turned to "ON" in our trucks.

That being said, the taco starts every single time and the dakota definitely didn't :amen:

Hi guys. I realize this is an old thread. But... I have an issue with a 4runner that I bought and hoping to resale. It's a 95 with the 3.0. It had been sitting and had blown headgaskets. I replaced the head gaskets and then started chasing down all the rest of the gremlins. My current problem is that it looses fuel pressure overnight and takes awhile to start first time the next day. That's the only time. I started by going out first thing and cracking the banjo bolt on the fuel rail to see if it was loosing pressure. And it was. No fuel. So I thought it was the check valve, so I just replaced the fuel pump a couple days ago and it's still doing it. Now, I already replaced the fuel injectors due to another problem and I can5 find any leaks. But it was doing it before I replaced them. The only thing I can think it might be is the fuel pressure regulator. Or some kind of small leak somewhere in the line or something like that. But since it has no fuel spraying out when I crack that banjo bol5 on my fuel rail then I know it has to be a fuel pressure leak somewhere and that's what causing it to be hard to start first time in the morning. I've also read about problems with the cold start injector erring stuck and flooding the motor. But it seems to help it start when I pump the pedal while cranking. Cause otherwise it takes longer. So I don't think it's a flooding problem. So can the fuel pressure regulator cause it to lose pressure at the fuel rail? Even though it regulates the fuel going back to the tank? I've put alot of work into this truck and this is the only thing that isn't right with it. So if anyone has had an issue with their system flooding pressure after several hours , or has had problems with the fuel pressure regulator then please help. And of course I've changed the fuel filter and basic things. And I would have bet my house that it was the fuel pump, but I changed that. So is there some other check valve or anything like that , that would cause it to lose pressure?

I can't be much help, but you might get more uptake in the 4runner section - https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/4runners.127/

Well I couldn't find a thread that dealt with this kind of problem when I looked. It's a 3.0 and they are used in the pre tacomas so I was hoping that someone has ran into this problem in an earlier truck or even a tacoma with a 3.4. They are pretty close with the way the fuel injection works. I was just hoping to find several people with the same problem and with different solutions so I could hopefully come across something I haven't thought of.

It's not a big problem just irritating as I'm trying to sale it as a good reliable truck.

Replace the battery and starter. Other than that there’s no reason for a slow start other than the MAF, fuel pump/filter, or spark plugs.

Dude, you are way off. I'm sure a new starter won't keep fuel pressure in the rail. Or a new battery. Ur closest guess would be the fuel pump because the check valve is in it. But if people would read things completely before blurting out something, you would see that I have already replaced that. I need help from someone that works on these things on a normal basis like I do. Just with hopefully a little more experience. Thanks anyway. So if anyone else knows what could cause it to loose fuel pressure after sitting overnight then please comment.

Ok so I admit I didn’t go over the entire thread, but you are not the OP, so what does your concern have with anything? I don’t care what vehicle you work on the technology is the same I didn’t piss In your Cheerios so why don’t you start your own thread?

I read your thread hijack and you are in the wrong thread and with poor info. Give us data, not a problem. What is the fuel pressure? What is the battery voltage while cranking? What’s your valve lash at? Too many variables to answer your question.

Because this thread deals with fuel pressure problems and I was hoping that they have ran into the same problem. And if I was to start my own thread it might not get read by someone dealing with this problem and this thread does. It's that simple! No u didn't piss in my captain crunch, but when ur looking for a solution to a problem and you have read through a bunch of logical information and a bunch of gibberish, you really don't want to hear a bunch of half thought answers that don't comply to what you need. So you kinda get frustrated when someone doesn't bother to read what you wrote and just blurts out something. No worries though. It's alright. They make plenty of Cheerios.

As I wrote before. There is No fuel pressure at the fuel rail when it has set overnight. Once it starts everything is normal.

I see, you posted an update to a 2 year old thread in a thread for a truck that has nothing to do with yours and expects a legit answer. Thank you.

Where did you measure the fuel pressure?
