Just thinking about what my dream setup would be. I feel like I never see any 2015 TRD OR access cabs for sale. Does that trim even exist? I think maybe 2015 TRD Pros have the same specs in theory? It hits all my marks:
    • 6-foot bed
    • 4x4 with locking diff
    • access-cab
Asking for a manual transmission would probably make it even more of a unicorn. Anyways, this is the only set-up I would truly consider upgrading to. Cheers

It existed but wasn't very popular, the sport double cab dominated the 2nd gen era by a long shot.

We only got access cab offroads in canada and it was rare to see one, let alone a manual. The demand wasn't very high for them.

Honestly a manual FJ Cruiser is probably easier to find.

The access cab OR are rare but nothing special.

The 2015 TRD Pro access cab is a different story however, even more so with manual. Like most of those TRD Pros in 2015 with the manual and access cab was built in a very short time span during the MY15 production year like Toyota didn't want to build one per week or whatever. It was like they just wanted to batch build them all and be done with it. Not the same case for the access cab OR.

I think part of what makes it hard to search for examples online is because many used car sites clump the access cab and double cab together when doing a filtered search in an attempt to search for access cab or double cab separately.

Is this 2015 specifically? If not then this is incorrect, I just got my '12 AC-OR from the original owner in CO (6mt no less). I recall seeing others as well, but I don't know if any were '15 specifically (I wanted the silly little dash clock, so I was mostly looking '12-'14).

No arguing the dominance of the Sport trim..I wanted an OR, and it seemed like a 10:1 ratio out there..

05-16 never had a double cab offroad in Canada, ever. No idea why. So Canada is full of sports. Like 20:1 (all other models)

Yeh I don't understand why OP is focusing on 2015 specifically.

As far as I understand it 2013-2015 years are nearly if not totally identical in every detail, mechanically and electrically. There are some small differences between 2012s and the 2013-2015s, I don't recall exactly what at the moment.

I have a 2014 AC TRD OR 4.0L 6-speed MT, factory rear diff lock.

    I like it.

2015..could be "the final year!" thing, or simply that so many people say 2015 is the best year of the Tacoma like it has some major advantage over anything 2014 and older..but as far as I can tell the only benefit to a '15 over a '14 is being a model year newer, physically up to a year newer (and as little as a couple weeks), and the ability to blame the lack of clock on the dash for being late.

I think there were some tiny changes throughout the 2.5G run, but nothing significant. The SAIS was improved or upgraded after 2012 (I think there was a recall or TSB, mine had a new one installed in 2020, no charge), and in 2015 they eliminated the little clock in the dash. At some point the reverse camera and thermometer/compass in the rear view were eliminated (or maybe only with Entune?), and the bed storage boxes/cubbies may have had some shaking up. Or at least, this is what I understand from my research earlier this year..

Aside from trivial changes like removing the dash clock I think 2013, 2014, and 2015 are functionally identical in all respects. In features, and particularly in reliability. No difference.

Vehicles in the 10-years-and-older category, it doesn't matter whether a particular specimen is chronologically 1 year or 2 years older. All that matters is: mileage, mechanical condition (maintenance,) and physical condition (body, paint, rust.) The type of owner who had it, where they kept it garaged (or not,) how they drove it, and how they maintained it weigh 100x more heavily on the value of a used vehicle than it being 1 model year older or newer, assuming the other example(s) in that model-year range are of identical features, parts count & type, etc.

Really the only difference between 12-15 models is the radio options, in 13 they updated the SAIS to make it more reliable, in 14 they removed the compass/temp rearview mirror option (although it's still listed as an option in the brochure), and in 15 they removed the in dash clock. Everything else 12-15 is identical.

Essentially there's 3 year ranges in 2nd gens where everything was pretty much the same aside from minor updates/fixes.

05-08 (pretty basic, minimal electronics, VSC optional, side airbags optional, mechanical limited slip on TRD Sport models)

09-11 (A few more electronics, VSC standard, side airbags standard, TRD OR models got A-Trac, all other models got electronic limited slip via the ABS)

12-15 (Also referred to as 2.5 gen, updated front clip, updated interior, touchscreen radio with optional nav, SAIS was added to V6 models)

Brochures for 01-18 Tacoma's can be found here, you can see what was available in each year model.

    I had a 2011 OR AC 6MT in black, completely loaded. I've never seen a 2012-2015

Mine had factory tinted headlights, the better seats, actual cloth on the door panels, premium sound with this corny cheap subwoofer mounted in back with blue led lights on it. The dash lights were orange, I don't know how common that was..

the engine bay looked tucked like a show car. The only stuff on the inner fender aprons was a battery, fuse box, electro-boost brake module and intake ducting on the passenger side. No air injection, no abs module, no brake lines or clutter.

What a cool truck. I realize now it was kind of a unicorn. It was the best combo you could get before the updated front end came along. I never looked up any numbers for how many were made or anything but I haven't seen one since. I found mine CPO at a dealer in Everett WA in 2012

After a few years I wanted a DCLB and was tired of shifting, so I traded it in for my current SR5.

you’re right, I don’t really have a reason to single out 2015 other than the narrative online that 2015 is the “best” year of the 2.5 gen simply because it is last year before 3rd gen. That being said I still feel that I don’t don’t see many 2.5 gens that meet the criteria I posted above for sale… in CA at least

About the only other thing between these gens....strangely is the lack of lock cylinder on the passenger door... Noticed it between mine and a friends '08.

    Never noticed that.
I don't think I've ever used the key in the door on my taco, I'm too used to using the remote. Now my 84 Ford yea I use the key on both sides mainly because it has manual locks and it's not that easy to reach across and pull the handle.

In the midwest winters here a frozen lock cylinder can be a problem if you rely on the key in case your fob battery died for some reason.

All access cabs are long beds I believe.

Lockers can be added if you find you need one.

'13 is the best year. :D

So now 4wd manual becomes your focus.

I have a white AC OR '15, with auto, in CA and not for sale. I bought it used in '17 and looked at 5 or 6 before buying this one. Put about 125,000 miles on it so far.

I have a 2013 Spruce Mica AC OR MT!!
Took me a year of searching [back in 2019-2020] to find it; looked at several that were rusted AF before I found one in good shape.
I was looking for the AC OR MT so color wasn't too high on my list - lucked out with the Spruce Mica, best color ever.
[a new neighbor called it black the other day, i was pretty offended ;)]

    Definitely NOT for sale!!
