Things like the crawl control, multi-terrain select, multi terrain select, blind side monitors/parking sonars, even the power sliding rear mirror...

These all seem like fancy computer controlled things.

Can we really expect them to last 25 years? Wondering, if you are going to keep the Taco forever, if it is better just to do without all of it and get the base model.

With safety sense just out, blind side mirrors, etc, can you imagine how improved that technology will be in just 5 years. Will look like a 286 pc. That's for all cars though. Be so crappy in 10 years won't be worth fixing.
    Imo go with with base.

It's still too early to say since the oldest 3rd gen is only two years old.

BSM is extremely reliable. Moon roof doesn't leak. Qi wireless charging depends on the phone. Dual-zone climate control is great. It's a Toyota, so it's all going to still work in 20 years.

I'm a tad concerned coming from a bullet proof 2nd gen. My BSM gave a warning saying it wasn't working at 700 miles. Came back the next day. Still fine. At 900 miles my TSS screamed to brake on a country road clear day only car on the road.

In 2 years with my wife's rav4, we didn't have any false warnings or errors.

my BSM has freaked out and stopped working a couple of times and I usually just wipe them down and they start working again. I assume they'll be the first to crap out permanently. The air conditioner and regular parking sensors I'm not concerned about at all - that stuff is simple and reliable. Power rear window I assume is roughly as reliable as any other power window - it'll need a regulator after fifteen years if you use it a lot.

Isn't the BSM sensor behind the bumper caps? That's what I read at one point.

Yeah, it is. Both times when mine has stopped working I've just kinda wiped off the bumper caps and it's started working again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My OR does not have a sunroof, BSM, or parking detection..

I opted out of all of the packages for this reason. Any car/truck that you buy nowadays is going to have a bunch of technology features its part of living in 2018.

In the future, you will just opt to fix the features that you use in the event that they break or malfunction.

A lot of the features are not new to Toyota, just to Tacoma.

That's a north/south thing. When they get crusted with road grime/slush that the north is known for, it blocks the signal. Down south we get the same effect from mud. Just wash it off and it's back like magic.

My truck was clean the first time it happened. But it had rained that day.

Alot of the tech items on these trucks are there for assistance, they should never take the place of common sense. Everthing on my truck seems to work just fine. BTW the sunroof doesn't leak either.

My TSS has done that to me twice now, once at 70 MPH on the freeway and once on a side road. I am currently going thru lemon law to replace this truck

I could be wrong, but if the crawl and multiterrain stop working you just wouldn't use them and it will drive fine.

It would be terrible engineering on Toyotas part if if th ose features failing can "brick" the truck.

So in that sense, why not get them? Also you could probably look to old land cruisers for reliability of the gizmos. They've been around for years on those vehicles.

As far as the poster dealing with the safety sense issues...YIKES. my outback has the eyesight stuff and it's given me two false positives: once on a cold morning sitting at a stop light behind another vehicle, when they went an exhaust cloud caused my car to slam on the brakes and come to a stop. Thankfully the guy behind me was paying attention.

The rear backup assist braking freaked on and slammed on the brakes when I was backing out of a very steep driveway. Scared the shit out of me both times, but mine were slow speed goofups. I can't imagine a surprise 70mph full abs emergency braking situation.

Lemon Law? Doesn't there have to be more substantial problems than that?

I am guessing he's not getting very far with it unless there's more to it than that post.
