How safe are HID conversions?

Hi everyone,

Recently I've realized that my Xtreme XD Pro Led's don't do a good job of projecting light down the road, so instead I'm thinking of going down the HID route. Currently the biggest thing that is holding me back is the risk to the electrical system should something short out. I asked this question in @crashnburn80 fantastic lighting thread. He's personally never seen an issue, but I figure I'd ask on the main page for more opinions.

I'm planning to go with an OEM grade ballast and a relay harness for extra redundancy. Has anyone ever had major issues with their electrical system after an HID kit was installed?

I've been running a Morimoto 5500k HID kit for years without issue.

 

It seems that there are a ton of folks running the Xenon Depot or the Morimoto kits without issue. I wouldn’t hesitate to swap out the LED’s for a HID kit.

 

have used the higher end XD hid units w/phillips H11 bulbs without issues on several cars for over 10 years. I have never used the relay wiring and I have never had an issue.

 

Ran a Xenon Depot Phillips kit that wouldn't reliably work with automatic headlights. Always had one side or the other fail to ignite. Tried them on a relay harness, direct to a terminal block fed directly from the battery, direct to the battery, etc. No electrical issues other than with the HID kit.

I’ve had their D2S PROJECTOR headlights for eight years or so with zero issues.

Projector is your only option. Don’t be worthless.
