Didn't mean it to sound like a nursery rhyme but what's the lowest mileage you had tune your truck at? Just asking when other people got their tune done.

ETA: I have had multiple 3rd gen Tacomas and well aware of how they drive pre/post tune.

Why. Drive it six months. Then see if you want a tune. Use your own judgement instead of YouTube and Instagram.

How soon do you want to compromise your powertrain warranty? Unlikely to be an issue but if it is - easy way out for Toyota to stick you with the bill.

I second driving it for a bit and deciding if you actually need a tune. I think I had about 7K on mine when I got it tuned.

There have been numerous posts regarding the likelihood of Toyota "discovering" the tune. In any regard, if warranty work was required I would just have the ECU flashed back to stock prior to taking it to the dealership.

I drove mine about a week. In hindsight, I should have waited much longer. I didn’t end up liking the tunes that much. I probably still would have done one out of curiosity but after being on stock a while, I like it better. Especially with my regear.

Maybe I should edit my initial posts to prevent more posts like this....but, this is my third 3rd gen. I am well aware of how they drive pre and post tune.

Ahh okay. Then I say tune it immediately.

In that case, it shouldn’t matter. There is no set time you need to wait for.

Does that work with Toyotas? Most manufacturers’ ECUs have a count of any time the ECU was flashed and that has been used to deny warranty work many times.

Unsure, I haven't heard of any cases of a tune voided the warranty tbh and any discussion I have seen when factory warranty is brought up it has been described as I posted above. Hopefully someone who tunes or works in the warranty department can chime in.

    From my previous tuner's website:

Is tuning detectable by the dealer? Will this void my warranty?
    • The tunes do not modify the OEM ECU ID, and will retain the factory ECU ID

    • If the warranty issue in question is caused directly by the tune, you could potentially have your warranty voided on that item. These tunes however are virtually undetectable by the dealership. We make no guarantees or promises that tuning will uphold your vehicle's warranty, however, many of our customers have had their trucks at their local dealership with no warranty problems or issues, and dealerships have referred clients to us. Please use your best discretion when considering tuning your vehicle.

So, tune away if you want. Mine is fine with no tune.

I would have tuned mine immediately if my cable showed up but the package arrived empty, still waiting for that to be rectified. I had my motorcycle tune done when it had only 27 miles and never thought twice about that

I tuned mine within a week of purchasing, but I also got a universal tune pack for safe base tunes to go off of.

Why does mileage figure into your decision to do an ECU tune?

I've had engine related warranty (chirping high pressure fuel pump) done after repeated flashes with Ovtune. No issues.

Just looking for feedback from others who have had tunes, hopefully at low miles. Some people may provide some actual input in their posts regarding tunes at lower mileage that I am unaware or am ignorant too…
