I’ve never once considered how many clicks I pull up the handbrake. Just yank it to the top and call it a day.

I yank her all the way until she can’t click no more. I still get a little movement when I pull my foot off the brake though. Guess I may need to adjust mine?

Emergency brake is a misnomer. Most car companies refer to these as parking brakes after lawsuits from people many years ago. The rear brakes just don’t have the capacity to stop a truck on their own very fast (probably triple or more minimum stopping distance with parking brake alone). That being said...

I have a 6MT and I like to be lazy and shift into neutral and use the parking brake to slow down once in a blue moon. Also sometimes I like to match the warning beeps with the rhythm of the song I’m listening to, but I won’t go into that technique.

You have to be very gentle! The handbrake only actuates the rear brakes and those are typically responsible for less than 30% of braking force. You lose traction in the rear when you brake because of weight transfer which makes braking only the rears even worse!

You have to hold the button down the entire time when useing it as a handbrake, and you want to find the spot where it just slightly grabs (maybe 5° on mine) once you get there it doesn’t take much lock the wheels (probably 12° at 30mph). Another thing you have to remember is to lower the braking force as you slow down. The slower you go less degrees on the handbrake will make the rear wheels lock up. Once you get down to rolling speed any handbrake will lock the wheels. I don’t use the handbrake below 5mph.

Its been the same since day one (truck moveing a little after setting emergency brake that is). I usually never go to last click. I have just to see how much farther that is though. 2-4 more clicks than where I always put it at. I had to adjust my 1st gen a few times over the 250k miles I had him. Might as well figure out how it’s done on this one as well.

Best way is to replace the parking brake lever with a torque wrench and apply 13 ft-lbs when you park.

While pressing the brake pedal, Shift from D to P, pull parking brake up 2-3 clicks, release brake pedal.

    Au contraire, mon ami!

According to the holy writ of Ye Olde Owners' Manual the order is "with the shift lever in D, depress the brake pedal. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P." ;)

It's all about that little pawl in the transmission.

Yep. And you still have drums too. Even though you have Entune and cupholders.

Doesn't have one what? It has a parking brake, so you must be speaking of something else?

    Yep, this ^^^

It’s like noticing that the rear brakes of a mountain bike lock when riding downhill standing on the pedals.

You sure that isnt the loose rear suspension on these trucks? If you are rolling on flat ground when you engage it (without pushing normal brakes), you will bounce forward and backward a couple times through the axle wrap. Its normal to have the truck move a bit if you set it with the normal brakes on. When you release, the rear springs unload and then have to load bake up again in the correct direction to hold the truck.
