The reason I ask is because someone posted something about this fairly recently.

Good idea, @GQ7227 let's delete this thread and restart it on Friday and in the 3rd gen section :D
@GQ7227 it's no biggie about the part. We would all much rather you learn here that is not the water pump instead of at some shop trying to pull the wool over your eyes:D:cool:

Somebody has to post a new image in this thread though. The thumbnail for it in the 1st gen section list looks like a metal dong:rofl:
And I keep laughing when I see it. Someone post a real water pump or something lmao

And another thing, that's not a stupidity thing. Though I know that's not truly what you meant. More of a you were just lacking the information thing. Did you watch the Timmah vid for it? That stuff is all in there too. I'm not a vid watcher. I'm more of a diagram and reader type, so the FSM are great for me. Maybe some service manuals would help learning those parts too. Knowledge is power, homeslice:fistbump:and no better place to get completely totally unbiased, pro Toyota biased info, than from me. So ask away:D

how do i take this off without removing much other than the lower radiator hose,
i want to clean it up, give it some color TRD red maybe blue

truck is nearing due for radiator drain and fill but can hold off on timing belt since I inspected the last belt and it looked basically new somehow at 90k miles

the real water pump behind can be left as is? just unbolt this cover and paint it, put it back on and reattach the lower hose?
no weird gaskets behind it or anything

What you're wanting to remove and paint, I believe, is the thermostat housing. Not sure about the gasket as I'm the 2.7 but I'll bet the vid mentions it. Or the diagram in the service manual

Behind this is the thermostat. If it's the original it's probably going to be crusty and need a new gasket. You can pick one up at Toyota. At minimum I'd recommend buying a new thermostat gasket.

    This.

People also talk about ignorance is if it's an insult.

Ignorance is simply the lack of information. That's neither good nor bad.
