Is this Tail lights, headlights, or both?

So just about everyone doing "LED" headlight bulb swaps are in violation?

    It applies to all lights

    YES led is in violation

The led I have on my other cars are all violation as well

    I violate the law myself

Just saying know the laws that's all

I had a 1993 Integra GSr that CHP gave me me ticket for having modified light. I had swapped a 1991 Integra taillight in it . 91 cars had non orange looking taillight

    Both were factory Acura parts

I fought them for 15 months

I know the light law well, albeit not voluntarily ;)

I actually think I'm doing DOT a Favor by IMPROVING light output and increased visibility with LED's.
The rear turn signals on 3rd gens are like a dim star fading into a red dwarf.

I agree, wouldnt fret too much, but still good to know. I've had tinted windows on all my trucks and tires that stick slightly past the fender, never been pulled over, but I don't drive like a tool or am asking for it. My old roommate had a cali leaned, diesel 14'' wide blacked out ram, he got pulled over a few times and a ticket for each and everything.

Usually it's an add on thing, and not a reason to stop.
If you're driving like an asshole then you'll get pulled over and they'll look at your vehicle with a comb of appropriate tooth for your level of douche.

If you're driving like a normal person, only the most bored officer will care.

Lot of stupid comments about this, little practical experience with it. The letter of the law and the intent of the law are not separated by straight lines. Regardless of that, judging output and legality by 3 pictures on the internet is stupid by any measure.

Well it looks like lotus pulled were its technically illegal regardless in OPs state, whether he'll ever get pulled over thats another story and likely doubtful as mentioned, but still good to be educated and aware.

Still a nice mod and brave one, cracking lights open, painting and baking is always a pita mod. Looks good OP.

I'm with @lotuscupcar on this. As someone who has been sued multiple times in Ca, you'd be surprised.

Can you say umbrella policy. :rain:

@DCSBFTMFW Bay Area sucks. In the past two years I've been pulled over twice for no front plate, once for faded rear plate, once for transporting tires, thought they were stollen (had guns drawn), and once for speeding. All while minding my own business during daylight.

Edit: almost forgot front window tint, cop actually used a key and gouged it after I told him it's not tinted and I bought it that way.

They love the ricer crowd also. A buddy used to street race Honda cars, and he'd get popped all the time for stupid stuff, and had to constantly visit the Referee.

The letter of the law states performance can't be altered. It doesn't say appearance.

Like I said (and OP said), performance is unchanged. The law is very clearly written. If it illuminates red, has a red hue in regular daylight (not blacked out) and has a reflector - it's 100% legal. Police enforcement is totally separate from that, this is what the law requires.

I haven't had a front license plate in 16 years, and 6 vehicles. Never once been a problem, and I drive 14-20k miles a year all over the Bay Area.

Sorry you've had such a problem.

Okay, again I'm not near as worked up or invested in this discussion as you are. Holy hell man, chill we all said it looked good, just discussing if its legal or not.

    Wat?

I couldn't care less. Just squaring away fact from opinion since all anybody can reply is about legality from their keyboards and not have an actual clue.

    Calm yourself, dude.
