There are videos in this thread, but there is also a very detailed step-by-step guide in the first post. G'luck!

Where you say to cut the violet wire with white strip and then cap off both ends is this the only thing necessary for an automatic Taco to run 400w all the time?

I was confused about this as well in the original instructions. Don’t fully quote me as it was a while ago, but I believe I had to ground the violet wire that ran from the inverter. I had read through a bunch of this thread and ran across the clarification in a later post by someone who did this mod. I’ll see if I can find it…

Thanks everybody for these instructions! It was a breeze in my 2011 TRD.

You must cut the violet wire and ground the side NOT coming out of the inverter

I tried with just capping the other wire and didn’t work

I found this part to be ambiguous as well. But I just did mine yesterday and it worked, so here's what I did:

Cut the violet + white wire, cap both ends.

Cut the violet wire. Using this picture as a reference:

    image12902.jpg

the section that is to the left of his fingers gets capped. The section to the right of his fingers (the part that runs to the inverter) needs to go to ground.

I just did this mod and am also throwing a P1500 code. Cleared it once and it came back on after using the inverter for a day.

I'm charging a goal zero yeti out of the bed outlet with a 300W power supply.

The goal zero is reading ~300W input so everything seems to be working with the inverter. 400W light is on, on the switch.

Just keep getting this dang CEL. Please help!

So I did this mod, outlet and anytime, a couple of days ago. Tested with a voltage meter and it worked. 400w light stayed on all the time.

Put the center console back together and it stopped working. No lights on the switch. No power at the outlet. 100a fuse is fine, took the relay apart and I get continuity when I manually close it.

Great. Going on a trip today and I need this to work. FML. :bananadead::violent:

    11/27/21 ETA:
WEEEEEEEEEE! Now the fun begins. This mod was done so I could AC charge a Lithium battery pac to run a powered cooler. Since the 400w anytime quit I was using a DC plug into one of the 2 power ports. At an 8amp draw, should be no problem. That port quit working the other day. Just swap ports? The other port has a USB adapter in it to charge my phone because the USB port to the radio went funky. Sometime works, sometimes not, sometimes works and quits...

So ya, fun times. Trip itself is going well though.

So I fixed the problem, well, not really, the problem was me. After the test I disconnected the plug so I could wrap electrical tape around the bundled wires and do some other cleaning/dressing up of the connections. I didn't plug the connector back in.:oops::oops::woot:

    So it works now.

The same shit everyone else has.
I finally went to do this to my truck.

The DIY for a manual transmission is incorrect. I didn’t bother to go through 33 pages to see if someone posted the correct info but here it is…

3 wires need to be modified, not 2.

    Here’s the correct procedure

I want to make a charging station for gopro, camera , drone, and other small electronics.
What guage wire and fuse size is necessary from my aux battery? I will also have 10 guage wires going to the dometic cooler but my guess is these wires should be exclusively for the cooler.

I had my center console apart today because I was running a remote wire from my amplifier to my hidden dial. I figured I’d attempt this mod while I had it apart. I got the original harness untapped and was confused by the instructions so I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction with my 2012 Manual Transmission. Here are some pictures with my drawing of what I think I am being told to do. Correct me if I am wrong… or tell me to make the cuts. Please and thank you.

All the wires are on the same plug in the pic you labelled "inverter side".

If you have an auto trans you don't have to worry about the blue/black wire.

You are correct in cutting and grounding the purple wire. The purple/white wire to cut and cap is in the same plug.

To cap my wire after cutting it I slid a piece of shrink tubing down the wire. Then I put a silicone bead on the end of the wire. While the silicone was still wet I slid the shrink tubing back into place and shrank it. I think it would be fine with just the shrink tube but the silicone is added protection.

Nice write up! ....and as an added bonus: We also got a view of the rare/elusive console box net in one of the pictures. When I was shopping for my truck, I must have checked 25 trucks and never saw one.
