I have a traffic accident few weeks ago.
It damage my tailgate and rear bumper. So I get a new replacement for everything. Worse part I get this job to one of my friend bodyshop to do it..... after I pick up my Tacoma back home, I start look around.... the tailgate look like shift from left to right too much.
I did not want to bring it back and ask them to fix it, I want to fix it myself? Please tell me how to get it alignment right. Thanks

I'm not sure if there is really a way to align the tailgate. Try taking it off and putting it back on is the only thing I can think of.

Hi Topgun155, I see the photo of your Taco. Can you post a photo that the Halo light up at night, that light the road?

By the way thanks for your advice.

Hope that is what you are looking for. Those halos do nothing to light up the road. Pure looks. There are lots more pics in my gallery.

I had the same thing just happen to me. Some old lady crashed into my back end. After picking up my truck after the repair my tailgate was very loose front to back and side to side 1/2-1" of movement in every direction at the hinge and the latch mechanism was a little funky sticking ect. They told me it's normal. I open my tailgate almost daily, it's not normal. I asked to have a body shop guy tighten up the alignment. They took three attempts of trying to give it back to me before I was happy with the fit. Each time only took them 10-15 mins of tweaking it. So, yes it can be tightened up and fixed. I'm guessing there also may be some type of shim inside the hinge they left out after the repair?

The bottom line is that you should take it back to the shop who repaired it and have a professional fix it to your satisfaction. That's their job, let them do it. If you're nice and respectful in your request they won't have a problem. If it was a door hinge that wasn't aligned right there would be no question it needs fixed. Why should a tailgate be any different?
