cant wait to try this on my spare headlights. Wish there was super detailed write up on putting in some projectors with those nice white halos. now that would be nice

For all you guys who have done the BHLM already, how bad does it stink up the house when you heat the lights up to soften the sealant? What about the pre-burn? I imagine that creates some odors too.

Ive got my wife and baby here and don't want to stink up the house too bad or create any toxic fumes!

It definitely doesn't smell good by any means. Get them out of the house and work in a well ventilated area, windows open and a fan blowing out. It creates a negative air application and keeps the fumes from seeping further into the house.

The sealant stinks. The preburn isn't bad at all, just a faint spray paint smell.

Good to know. I guess I'm going to have to wait until they're gone for a few hours

Give the wife and kids a few bucks and send them shopping. Or, better yet, get them tickets to that Les Miserables movie. Damn thing is like 3 hours long :)

    There's an idea!

So I had the grill and one headlight out this afternoon. I wanted to do a dry run before the real thing and a couple questions came up:

    1. Is there a secret to getting the little black anchors that hold the grill in place out without breaking them or the keeper?

and 2. Where can I get some of those little black pins and keepers that hold the grill in place?

The toughest part of removing the headlight was finding the 10mm screw up inside the fender that was holding the headlight in place. Next weekend I will attempt to do the actual mod.

The black things on top, I use a small flat heat screwdriver to pry up the middle part, then the whole thing will come out.

Don't worry, you'll get proficient at getting at that side screw. Once you do it a couple times, it's not bad.

Try Camelback Toyota for those black clips (they're a vendor on here and typically blow the local dealerships out of the water price-wise). I don't know where else you would get them other than a dealership. I'm sure there are places that sell them, I just have no idea who would.

    Anthony works cheap.
With the FXR projectors and replacement housings, you're going to be in the ballpark of $600.
The basic projector kit (non-group buy) is $400 w/o halos for the FXR,
My D2S kit is $295 + $45 for the Philips lamp upgrade.
TRS group buy knocks the price down 25%, so it's worth waiting.

A new set of Depo housings on Amazon... if you shop carefully... will set you back about $180 shipped for the pair.

If you don't shop carefully, the $180 box arrives with ONE housing and not a pair... most sale listings are only $5-$10 different between the singles and the pairs, and there are vendors selling the pairs for well over $200 plus shipping.

The CCFL halo kit is a $25 upgrade, $50 for LED, but you're on your own figuring out how and where to tie them into the truck.
You can't just hook the CCFL style to the DRLs... the turn signal will blow the CCFLs out in a short time (like turning a CFL light bulb off and on all the time... I killed a Home Depot 'Party Bulb' in 48 hours connected to a traffic signal flasher)

I was looking for an extra headlamp and when I looked on Amazon it said that some of the Tacoma headlights would not fit my Tacoma trd..is there any difference between a regular Tacoma headlamp and a TRD Tacoma headlamp. Just want to make sure before I buy.

TRD is a smoked reflector surround.
That's the only difference between '05-'11

Thanks never noticed..guess I need to look at a non trd and see the difference, either way I'm planing on doing the BHLM so I guess it doesn't really matter. How are those depot lights? I know they're aftermarket but you think it's worth buying and doing a a projector retro fit?

    That's what I used.
I put a set of Spyders in my wife's Rav4 and the pattern was horrible. She's getting a projector retrofit in a few months.

Depo is a good aftermarket maker. Nothing fancy, just OEM style.
You can get the housings with the BHLM already done as well.
I went with a set of those and did a retrofit, but I repainted everything when I shot the reflectors to ensure a match on the satin black.

    Hey,

Let me know when you decide that you are going to do your BHLM, I will give you a hand. I need to see the process so I can do my own.
