The cookie sheet will get hot and potentially melt your plastic housing. The cardboard will not. Use cardboard....plain brown cardboard box

Well folks, looks like one of my lights is leaking. It was the first one I attempted to put back together. I assume I'll just need to pull it apart, clean it up and try again??

No, but I haven't pulled the light out or anything yet. It's been really rainy the past couple days and just about the whole light is fogged over at times. Must be a pretty big gap.

I used the oem stuff and added some sealant I had in the garage. I'm sure it's because I just screwed it up. The first one I tried to seal back up was very sloppy. I'm just wondering what the process is for cleaning it out to ensure that no moisture stays in there if I get it all sealed up properly. Take everything apart, wipe down and then leave it out in the sun for a bit?

it doesnt hurt to add silica gel pack inside the housing (see attached picture). This was my last retrofit and ive never had any moisture problem despite any rain/sleet/ice/carwash. The front part of the headlight covers it anyway, but the silica will suck any small amount of moisture.

Ive always use butyl from TRS (http://www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/morimoto-retrorubber-butyl-glue-50246.html) when Im resealing my headlights and havent had issues. One way to remove the old seal is by using a heat gun and work a small section at at time. If the headlight is pretty old and the old sealant is pretty crusty, i would just remove all of them. If the headlight is only a year or two, i would just add a little buttyl to the old one. Dont put too much butyl but dont put too little also.

good luck! Do it right the first time and you wont have to remove, bake and reopen that headlight anymore.

lots of retrofit experts recommend them from hidplanet.com and even tRS or they wouldn't be selling them.

Had mine in there for at least 6months now and never had any issue. never had any moisture either :)

Did mine on Saturday. Went 250F for 13 minutes and they pulled right apart with ease. During reassembly the glue was hard and I was unable to push the housing back together nicely so back in the oven for 10 minutes at 250. That softened the glue, allowed them to slide together nicely and i use the screws in a star pattern to bring the housing back together.

I noticed that most, if not all, are painting the area around the side marker. We have some picky state inspections here, so I used some painters tape and an exacto knife. I think it looks good.

    Edit: image was broken duh

Followed the directions and it went smoothly. Also was able to color match my chrome grill since I already had it off. Thanks for the directions bud.

Little idiot tip for everyone here. When you are pre-heating the oven to do the second headlight, take the cardboard out first. You don't want to have to run out of the house carrying a fully enflamed piece of cardboard. Someone I know did this today. Totally wasn't me.

I had mine on at 250 with the cardboard in there for the full 13 minutes each. Bottom rack, no problem.

What are you guys using to smoke the reflector. I have a 2015 and want to make the orange reflector a little less bright.
