    Do you remove the black rubber piece on top before baking them?

    I don’t think I did but I baked mine super low and super slow.

    I can’t remember right off, I pulled mine apart a few years ago to build a retrofit. I followed this thread but lowered the temp and increased the dwell time a few minutes and didn’t have any issues pulling the light apart.

    I took mine off teh first time. The second and third times, no. Didn't see any harm by leaving them on, but that all depends on the temp you're using.

    I have the same piece on my GX470 headlights, I just left it on. Bake times that have yet to fail me are 275° for 5 min and I try opening it up and put it back in for another 5 until it opens. This helps keep the housing from getting too soft and deforming. I also use trim pliers almost exclusively and don't usually need any other tools.
