Has anyone painted the bowl that surrounds the bulb and kept the stock light bulbs? Did this effect light transmition? It seems some paint the bowl and some don't.

More specifically, anyone know if painting the bowl is illegal in CA?

if you are staying bulbs and not doing a projector mod DO NOT paint the bowl. it isnt legal and you will lose reflectivity

Hahah ya I figured. So I went to sears and autozone and all I could find similar to the 4m window weld was 3/8" Super Soft Ribon Sealer Weatherstrip. It looks just like the window weld. Will this stuff work?

I did mine in color matching paint, so I used 3 coats of color on top of the adhesion promoter. I did not use any clear coat.

The dry time will depend on how many coats of paint and the weather conditions. I did mine last May on a sunny day (low humidity and about 70 degrees), so I let mine bake in the sun for about 3 hours after being "dry to the touch".

You accelerate the "dry time" if you bake them in the oven at a low temperature. Many of the members here do that to speed up the process.

I'm trying to put bezel back in but the old sealant on the lens keeps sticking to the bezel and taking the paint off the bezel. I put the lens in the oven to heat it up and took most the sealant off the lens but it keeps happening. Now I have like 5 coats on the bezel haha. Any suggestions?

I may have not let it dry enough because it chipped a little bit when I put the bezel back it. I think I also scratched the lenses up quite a bit.

In my experience, if you don't sand off the chrome, the paint is more prone to chipping when putting the bezel back in.

I sanded my first pair of lights and had no problem. With my second pair, I did not sand the chrome. When I put the bezels back in I had to touch up one light 3 times because I chipped the paint when it hit the inside of the lens.

If I ever do this again, I will be sanding off the chrome for sure. It's easy to do and doesn't take that long.

no everything still looks really good..its been raining a lot lately and ive washed it 2x since feb..i think as long as you give a generous amount of 3m window weld, you should be golden

I just got done with mine. I didn't sand the chrome either and it chipped a few times and had to touch it up like 3 times. I scratched the hell out of my lenses too kinda bummed about that one. I think if I was to do it over again I'd just buy a new set on ebay already done for $100 and save a lot of time and it's only $75 to buy them if you count the windo weld and spray paint. Overall it was a really big pain in the ass. But it does look pretty good.

I reused the OEM sealer. Pushed it all back into the grooves before putting the headlights back in the oven during re-assembly. Been over a year and no problems.

I would bet the "gauze" is supposed to keep bugs out while still allowing the air to circulate.
