I hauled a 32' tower the weight wasn't there just the length I fastened a hitch arrangement to the front and a small two wheel trailer to the back. Not something I would recommend but I got away with followed me up the mountain access road too (I use the word road for lack of any thing better it wasn't much). I vote for the rented trailer.

Personally, it would be cheaper and safer to rent a 17ft Uhaul truck versus a trailer. Much easier and faster to load/haul and avoid the wear and tear on the truck.

Why not lean it up on the cab and tailgate, and strap it on all four corners of the bed? Or better yet get one utility ladder rack in front. You can get a set of racks cheap on amazon, or get the Tacoma fitted one like in the picture. It’s more expensive but can easily bolt in and out.

So depending on the weight of the tube hang it on the passenger side of your truck. Use the bed cleats in the bed with straps. up front couple options, depending on weight and distance, (open driver door first) wrap a tie down over top and through cab, and hook another strap to pipe and tie down. you could hook one the pipe and the driver side wheel well. depending on weight. make sure to pad the pipe so you don't scratch your truck. you can hook to your Oh Shit handle as well. depending on the size and weight of pipe use your mirrors arm as support. don't put much weight on this. but depending on you truck set up 2-3 straps hooking it to the bed, 1-3 straps to cab 1-2 across the hood.

now it would be just as easy to go rent a car hauling trailer from U-haul, but if you are more of a "Honey hold my beer and watch this" (like i am) redneck engineer the shit out of it:transformer:
