Hi guys! It looks like my Tacoma has a sealed automatic transmission - no deep stick. How can I check the level and condition of this fluid? It already has 136000ml and running great.
    Thanks!

^^^This, or you need a scan tool to read trans temp. Fluid temp must be 97-115F and engine running in park when checking.
Note the temp of 115-130F in the original thread is wrong, it was revised in 08 to 97-115F (see attached TSB).

Any scan tool that can read ECM (Engine Control Module) & TCM (Transmission Control Module) that has live data functionality (sometimes referred to as Mode 6 I think?) should be able to read A/t oil temperature.

I use the Autel MD806 Pro ($230) but there are many others that can be had for much cheaper that can do the same thing.

If you get the Autel, the ATF fluid temp is found in Scan > Asian > Toyota > Manual Selection > USA > Tacoma > Select Your Vehicles Year From The List > Select Your Vehicles Model Code From The List Found On Door Placard > Diagnosis > Control Unit > Engine and ect (yes, it's spelled ect) > Live Data > Custom List > (Select Both) A/t oil temperature 1 & 2

*Note: The higher of the two temperatures is the sensor located in or near the torque converter. The other is the temp of the oil in the pan. Use the temperature of the oil in the pan to get your reading.*

Good info, about to purchase scan gauge II for the same purpose, do you know if the trans temp reading it relays is that of the trans oil pan or of the torque converter?

Please see the note at the very bottom of my last post. There's two sensors (at least for the A750F transmission that comes in the 4.0 4x4) and thus you should see both sensors in the scanner.

Hey, norcal50 I got a new AUTEL 806PRO and just measured AT temperature. The digits are:
    AT temperature 1 158.08
    AT temperature 2 161.24

So obviously high readings... I think I need to do the Transmission Oil change. Here at St. Pete, FL we have a Toyota dealership and these guys have machine(vacuum pump) for this procedure. I read some posts online that say to stay hands-off from this action.
Do you have any experience with this?
    Thanks for any answer!

But the normal, good Fluid temp must be 97-115F, right??
So, 158 is not a high temperature in the oil pan?

That's the temperature to check the fluid level, operating temp is higher (typically ~160-200)

Re-read the procedure in post #2 above. You must check the ATF level under certain conditions including having the engine running and being at the proper ATF temp.

Honestly, if you are not having any issues with the truck and not seeing any evidence of leaks, I would not worry about it. Its not a hard procedure per say, but you can makes things worse if done wrong.

Oh, I can see... So, is that mean the transmission fluid level is low?

You have to get the temp to 97-115, pull the check plug, and see if fluid runs out, if it doesn't it's low.
Did you read the fluid check procedure I posted above?

I did the measuring just after I drove the truck for about 30 min on the road.
