Is there a reason why you can't strap the bike down while your standing in the bed with it, then hop out and shut the tailgate?

Challenge: Come up with the most convoluted way to close the tailgate while standing in it. Other than using a damn suction cup.

My idea: Shift into reverse, jump in the back, and let the truck slowly back into a light pole, pushing the tailgate up, while you stand there holding the 50lb bike in the bed of the truck.

I use a ramp shaped like a Möbius strip, a donkey, and popcorn for bait.

Alright alright, i was not going to tell anyone this because this method is so obvious I'm sure you all have thought of it right?
Step 1: Find a loading dock or rock shelf.
Step 2: Put truck in neutral.
Step 3: put bike in back while simultaneously..
    Step 4: Pushing the truck
Step 5: Jump up in the back and hold your bike tight!
Step 6: Rest assured that your tailgate will automatically close with a satisfying thud as you drop off the loading dock.
Step 7: Well, now you are stuck. You are trapped in the bed with a shut tailgate!
Step 8: Call a friend to bring you food and drink while you rack your brain trying to get out of a bed with the tailgate shut.
Step 9: Realize you can escape through the back glass of the truck!
Step 10: Break glass, climb through the wildow and drive away. Maybe.

Control your breathing if you become trapped in your truck bed. You want to limit the dehydration. Also drink pee until a woman walking her corgipoo can let the tailgate down. Remember that and good luck.

That's too much work. I would just sell the bike.

I still dont understand how my original post turned into this.

Still looking for an actual solution. I thought the suction cup idea was good, until the suggestion was made that I may damage my leased tailgate.

Other idea was to use the tailgate screws to attach a D-Ring, but it was suggested that these screws are too weak and would break.

Do a sick flip on the bike when you put it in the bed and this would be perfect

I really don’t understand why you are attempting to load in the manner you want. A fifty pound bike is difficult?

People load motorcycles far heavier with less hassle.

The attached picture should give you a clue.

Good to know. I got trapped in my truckbed once. Worst three weeks of my life. Honest.

You get these answers because there is no way you can be serious. If you wanted to solve, simply lift the bike over the tailgate from the ground and wedge it in that way. Unless you cannot lift 50 lb, then you need to hire a crane and hit the gym.

These sound infinitely useful but one question: which end is up? Seems like if you got it backwards after you went up you and your bike would be back on the ground staring at an open tailgate. They come with printed instructions or they make you watch a fucking video? And where do you put the donkey bait?

No the donkey is on the strip, on its second “up” pass, it closes the tailgate with its head. I simply throw the popcorn (and eat the popcorn) at the donkey while yelling at it.

Oh fuck man. So obvious I didn't even see it. This is brilliant. So does the donkey fit in the bed with the bike and the Mobi-ramp? Or you gotta find another donkey when you get home and hope you didn't eat all the popcorn?

I think there's too much momentum to stop this train. It's goin' 'til it hits something. But I find it fascinating.
