I have a 2012 access cab with base stereo, no jbl. I'm in the process of doing a full upgrade but while I'm waiting for my head unit to arrive I figured start on the doors. I have the adapter to go from the mid speakers wire harness to +/e. Connected that to the input on my crossover/component speakers and then to the new mid and new tweeter.

But without connecting the stock tweeter into its harness I lose all sound. Is this a limitation to the oem head unit only working in sync with the tweeter, what's being sent through that mid speakers harness?

Should I run new speaker wire with the new head unit, this component set will be getting 100-150watts from an amp.
