Nice job! I have a similar shell. My dumbass cousin somehow busted the rear glass out of it though and I don’t have the hardware either. I want to restore it and paint it but idk if I’ll ever find a new rear window, so I’m torn. Also next time you need factory match paint automotivetouchup.com has really nice factory match rattle cans. It’s good paint too, I painted a whole car with it. They send a test card you spray and hold up to your car. If it doesn’t match you send it back and they modify it. They also sell 2 part urethane clear coat in a spray can!! I’m not affiliated with them either. Just had good luck with their products.

Can you fit an adult coffin in it. If so, you also have a new hobby.

Looks awesome. Nice reuse and making it original.

Did you purchase the glass from them or make it yourself? What did it run you if you don’t mind me asking? I thought about going plexiglass but I was told it technically won’t pass inspection.

Nvm I reread it and I’m guessing you used lexan? Never heard of it

Great story and great looking shell. You can’t ask for much more than that.

Oof. As someone who has been looking for a shell for like 6 months, I feel your pain. So many of them are busted up, the wrong size/shape, or stupid expensive. Looks like you found one worth fixing up.

About how much does it weigh?

Good job on the shell! I wonder if you can use some clear vinyl wrap on the lexan to help protect it from surfaces scratches?

This stuff has been holding up pretty well on the back window of my Leer 100r. Used it to black out the glass - it was already tinted but needed just a little more. Not sure how well it would hold up on the outside of the vehicle but would definitely help protect the inside.

I rehabbed mine too. Almost same color, but a little different style shell. I used Lexan for a window that was broken out. So far (6 mos) it still looks really clear/scratch free.

I added the Isuzu Rodeo rack (salvage yard $15.00) to the top mainly just for appearance, but it will carry a few boards or a ladder, but in hind sight, I think it looked better without it. I may still pull it before Winter and just caulk the bolt holes.

Edit: BTW, I didn't prime it, the paint was faded so thin I sanded all the way through to original primer with just normal prep work.

Great work and I liked the story, made me laugh. The skylights are cool because if you camp out in the bed, you can stargaze as well.

Is that a super-rare Firehawk I spy in the driveway? NICE!

I wet sanded with 400 and then 600. I used 2 part paint, Nason brand. Nason is some of the cheaper, but professional, auto body store paint. But, I used a $10 Harbor Freight spray gun and sprayed outside in that little plastic tent closed in on 3 sides. So, I was glad is turned out pretty good. I did get one run, but it was small.
