At the end of the day....what values, lessons, ethics, morals, character do you have? What did you do to earn or deserve being given this truck or a you just simply a spoiled bitch like you say?
People that are given things have no respect or appreciation for their things much less other peoples things, which shows by what you find satisfying.
My parents didn't give me a damn thing, you know what is satisfying? Looking at my truck and knowing that I did what I had to do to get what I wanted and how proud I am to have a nice ass truck that I got all on my own.

 Good for you and way to go for your parents even though I'm sure you hated it at the time.

To the OP, get what you can afford and don't depend on the parents, you will appreciate it more in the future. You have already stated you have done good for yourself and have a bright future, so start living without having the parents holding your hand.

I have been going to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA (middle of the state). Last semester when I got the job and I was talking about graduation with them, they mentioned possibly getting a car for me for graduation. They know I love the taco and have asked a few times why; they feel like the bed is wasted space. It almost seems to me like they'd rather me get an SUV where everything in the back is locked and protected, but then when they mention the price of the taco they make it sound like an SUV would be cheaper. I suppose if I got a rav4 it could be cheaper but there is no way you'll see me driving that. In the end unless they have some really good arguments to counter the 11000 people on TW and myself I will buy my taco whether they assist me or not.

As a parent,I would be against my kids having a new 4X4 Tacoma.
Here in Jersey it doesn't snow that much.A FWD or AWD is good enough.
The insurance rate for a 4X4 Tacoma would be very, very high.MPGs aren't great too.
My 20 year old son drives a '08 Civic with GY Triple Tred tires. No problem in snow and he gets over 30 MPG.He commutes to college and his insurance cost is much less than a new Tacoma.
    Somebody mentioned resale value.
A Civic is #1 in resale and if gas cost rises the Tacoma will drop like a rock..
If my son had all the money to buy a Tacoma,I'd try to talk him out of it but it's his money.
He didn't have the money so I helped with his Civic purchase and....:)

Hey if it means anything, today while I was driving home, the ass end of my truck slid out in 2wd. I wasn't speeding, I was going the same pace as everybody else. I managed to go to the side of the road instead of oncoming traffic. Went through some little bushes/branches that slowed me down a little bit before the actual trees that I was looking at head on. Because the fact that I had ground clearance and 4wd, I was able to get out of the little patch of crap that I drove through.

There was about an inch of snow on the ground too. I think it's time for new tires.

The fact is, having a vehicle that can get you out when shit happens is what you want. I didn't buy my truck thinking "Hey if I start sliding towards woods I'll be fine since I have 4wd and ground clearance." Prepare for the unexpected. Buy a Tacoma.

Good point. If you don't need a truck yet, don't get it. See if gas prices go up and then get one, as you'll get a better deal.

I got mine last May right when gas prices were around $4/gal and I got a damn good deal on it

I'm also open to getting a used taco. At this point though I will need to be buying a vehicle some time in the next 4 months or I will have to get my sister's corolla out to PA. The way I see it is why spend the money on a vehicle I wont be completely satisfied in? If I'm gonna be spending the money, I should spend it on something that will last me a long time. I have had my eye on the taco since I started driving or maybe even earlier and so far nothing has made me dislike it. It's not like I have been dreaming about a Ferrari that is 6 figures and gets single digit GPM.

It would most likely be cheaper to go new, and as others have said, it not where you are now in life, it's where you may be, and a truck is always good for changes. Just do your homework, show your parents what you want and why, nothing goofy and I would imagine they'll see that your request is sound, congrats on school.
