Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
So a few years ago I got one of the "No Step on Snek" stripped lowers from PSA for a 6.5 Grendel build. I thought it would be cool to fill it in with yellow, green and white model paint to resemble a Gadsden Flag.

Now I think it's childish and embarrassing. I wish I had just gotten a plain Jane stripped lower.

I think I would be slightly less annoyed by it if I could at least turn it black again. But what's the best way to do so? Is there a way to remove model paint after 3 years?

Or just paint over the whole lower in a flat black? That sounds like a PITA with a lot of parts removal and/or masking tape.

A wire wheel on a small angle grinder will remove just about any paint.

Could you post a picture of your artwork??

Acetone should work, shouldn't effect anodizing. What ever solvent you use, test it inside the mag well if you want to makes sure it won't leave a mark.

I’ve used crayon wax to fill in the safety selector markings on numerous builds. When it wears down I use brake parts cleaner, spray it on a q-tip and it comes right off. I’m pretty sure model pain isn’t that strong of a compound, so should work fine. And the cleaner has never damaged any of my finishes. Hope this helps.

Brake cleaner or acetone with a toothbrush. Make sure you wear eye protection.

I'd try brake cleaner or acetone before a wire wheel. Wire wheel will probably tear up the black ano under the paint and you'll have to refinish the receiver. As others have said above spot test the solvent inside the magwell before going to town on it.

No power tools!! It’ll ruin the original finish… just be patient and use a q-tip or toothbrush. Unless your planning on stripping your lower and having it redone, then I’d just have it blasted clean.

MEK, a toothpick and a paper towel.

Use a brass pick for hard to remove areas.

Now would be a good time for a camo job using Brownell's Aluma hyde.

Any chance you want to part with this lower or trade for a regular psa lower?

This (non-chlorinated brake cleaner). A brush will damage the anodizing.

As also already noted, good time to camo it- black guns stick out really badly in the woods. No, there is no need to disassemble the gun, just spray it down with something like non-chlorinated brake cleaner to get any oils/grease off, warm it a bit (leave it in the sun for a bit or use a heat gun), mask off anything you don't want paint on (basically just the optic's glass and the numbers on the turrets) and have at it. Lots of videos and people posting all manner of tutorials online but there's really no need to overly complicate it, pick something that works in your area or just something you like and have at it. Krylon/Rustoleum/etc. can be touched up, changed or removed later with brake cleaner or acetone.
