The HA disengages as soon as throttle is applied.

You pretty much proved my point. Hill assist you don’t have to do any of that. Let off the brake and start out like normal. No nerve wracking anything.

Just to me clear I am well versed in driving an manual and hill starts. Up until my Tacoma I had never owned a auto’s and still dislike them. I didn’t have a choice and had to get an auto. Mine has a tune and manually shift it. Otherwise I’d go crazy.

First vehicle I have ever had this on it. My 1992 Toyota truck was a 5 speed that I owned for 14 years and still had the original clutch when I sold it. The Pathfinder with the automatic that we owned for 15 years would roll back on a strep hill but would not stall.

I tried this on my Automatic sport on a very steep hill in the city I live in to see what this hill start assist was all about on an Automatic. It was kinda neat that even with an automatic it will hold the truck for 2 seconds on a steep hill. So I thought, what will happen if I go beyond the 2 seconds. The truck started to roll back and the engine shut off leaving me to try and stop the truck with no vacuum boost for the brakes. Also the power steering stopped working as well. It took extra force to get the vehicle under control. Once I got the truck stopped I put the truck back into either neutral or park so I could start the truck again. This was a side street that was very quiet.

Don't change your throttle application...press the gas as you would normally do not anticipating the system to do the work for you.

Most of the time, we think it's "hands off" when it comes to conveniences.

Once we figure out how things work under safe conditions, then we can apply how the system works in traffic/situation driving.

I applied the same method when I first learned how to ride my Y2K Gixxer750. That thing scared the crap out of me but I was determined to learn how to operate it. I spent plenty of time in our development (where the speed limit is 25 and not too much traffic), getting use to shifting out of 1st gear.

A motorcycle would be the only conveyance I would want in a manual transmission.
